Highlight species include Green Heron, Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, Red
Phalarope, Laughing Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Sabine's Gull, Eurasian
Collared-Dove, Cassin's Vireo, Curve-billed Thrasher, Nashville Warbler,
Black-throated
Gray Warbler, Townsend's Warbler, Pine Warbler, and Northern Waterthrush.

A GREEN HERON was reported by Day at Fruitgrowers Reservoir, Delta County, on
August 28. It was near the bridge on the causeway.
GREEN HERONS have been reported by several birders at Cottonwood Marsh at
Walden Ponds, Boulder County, recently. The last report was on August 28. Floyd
reported a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH at Walden Ponds on August 23 and it was seen
again on August 27. An EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was reported by Floyd at Walden
on August 27.
An immature YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON and EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE were
reported by Jones at Carp Lake, El Paso County, on August 24. The night-heron was
in the southeast area of the pond. Carp Lake is 0.5 mile south of Big Johnson.
The night-heron was seen again on August 27.
At Barr Lake, Adams County, Leukering and Schmoker reported a basic-plumaged
RED PHALAROPE and juvenile SABINE'S GULL in the west/southwest area of the
lake on August 27. TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS were also at Barr Lake on August 27.
An EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was reported by Francisco at the rest area north of
the Fort Lupton/Dacono exit of Hwy 85, Weld County, on August 27.
EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were reported by Fink near Union Reservoir, Weld
County, at the intersection of CR 5 and CR 28 on August 27.
A LAUGHING GULL was reported by Wild at Fossil Creek Reservoir and Duck Lake
in Fort Collins, Larimer County, on August 21. It was seen again on August 30
at Duck Lake.
A first-year GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL was reported by Beltz at Cherry Creek
State Park, Arapahoe County, on August 5. The gull was at the southeast inlet
sandbar. The gull was seen again on August 28. TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS were also
seen at Cherry Creek on August 28. Brown reported a BLACK-THROATED GRAY
WARBLER at Cherry Creek on the west side of the Lake Loop Parking Lot on August 30.
At Chico Basin, El Paso and Pueblo Counties, Lewis reported TOWNSEND'S
WARBLER, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, CASSIN'S VIREO, and CURVE-BILLED THRASHER on August
27.
CASSIN'S VIREO and TOWNSEND'S WARBLER were reported by Schrott on Bambi's
Trail on BLM land south of Gunnison, Gunnison County, on August 28.
At Loudy-Simpson Park in Craig, Moffat County, Luke reported NASHVILLE and
TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS on August 27.
At Prewitt Reservoir, Logan and Washington Counties, Kellner reported an
immature PINE WARBLER, TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS, and NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH on August 26.
At Crow Valley Campground, Weld County, Kellner reported TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS
on August 26.
A female TOWNSEND'S WARBLER was reported by LaFleur on the Big Thompson River
Trail east of Wilson Ave in Loveland, Larimer County, on August 26.
The field trip for Saturday, September 3, is to Prewitt Reservoir led by Joey
Kellner. Meet the leader at 5:00 A.M. at the Colorado Division of Wildlife
parking lot, 6060 N. Broadway. Bring lunch and lots of water. A $3 State
Wildlife Area fee per vehicle applies. Call 303-978-1748 for more information.
The field trip for Sunday, September 4, is to South Table Mountain led by
Mike Foster. Meet the leader at 7:30 A.M. at the Wild Bird Center in the mall at
the NE intersection of Youngfield and 32nd Ave. Half Day trip. Call the

The next monthly meeting of Denver Field Ornithologists is Wednesday,
September 7, at 7:30 P.M. The program is entitled "Bird in the Hand", an anthology
of poems and stories about birds by author and birder Kent Nelson. Meetings are
held in the VIP room of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
