____ DUPAGE COUNTY ______________________________________
Warblers seen at Elsen's Hill this past week include YELLOW-THROATED,
BLACK-THROATED BLUE, BLUE-WINGED, GOLDEN-WINGED, CANADA, WILSON'S,
MOURNING, and other regulars. Five species of vireos were seen
including BLUE-HEADED, YELLOW-THROATED, and WHITE-EYED. Other arrivals
this week include SWAINSON'S THRUSH, HERMIT THRUSH, PURPLE FINCH, and
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER. The BROAD-WINGED HAWKS and RED-SHOULDERED
HAWKS also continue to be seen on occasion.
At Blackwell on Aug. 28, birds seen around the front ponds include
NORTHERN PARULA, GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER,
RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS, 14 BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS, and other common
warbler species.
At Pratt's Wayne Woods on Aug. 25, an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was seen.
On Aug. 28, a BLACK-THROATED BLUE was also seen this week around the
ponds west of Powis Road and the main parking lot. A flyover LEAST
BITTERN was also seen.
An OSPREY was seen hunting for fish at a pond east of McKee Marsh on
Aug. 27.
At Greene Valley on Aug. 29, a variety of warblers were seen highlighted
by a BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER and a BLUE-WINGED WARBLER.
This past week at West Chicago Prairie, five YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS
were seen.
This past weekend, a CERULEAN WARBLER was seen in the Yard in Downer's
Grove.
COMMON NIGHTHAWKS have been reported at a number of locations during the
past two weeks.
____ KANE COUNTY _______________________________________
A BALD EAGLE was seen along the Fox River in South Elgin on August 30th.
At the Kaneville Sod Farms (Main St.) this weekend, birds seen included
AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS and a couple possible BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS.
____ FERMILAB SIGHTINGS ________________________________
At FermiLab on Aug. 26, four AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS were seen at A.E.
Sea. One was still present as of Aug. 29 along with BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS,
STILT SANDPIPERS, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS and other regulars. A BLACK
TERN was also seen on Aug. 26. The WESTERN SANDPIPER was last seen on
Aug. 24. A PEREGRINE FALCON has also been seen on multiple occasions.
One of the two BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS located on Aug. 17 was still
present as of Aug. 20. The two immature LITTLE BLUE HERONS seen on Aug.
19 were not relocated the following day.

Saturday, September 3, 7:30 a.m. Second Annual Birders Breakfast.
Tri-County S.P. A bird walk will start at 8:00 am followed by a
breakfast at 9:00 am. It will be a potluck affair this year, so contact
Andie to coordinate what food to bring. Tri-County S.P. is located on
Stearns Rd west of Route 59 and Powis Rd. Follow the road to the right
all the way back to the pavilion parking lot.

Wednesday, September 7, 8:00 a.m. Morton Arboretum.
We will be looking for warblers and other migrating passerines.
Meet at Thornhill parking lot (west side). The Arb is located just
north of I-88 off Route 53 in Lisle. There is a per person charge for
nonmembers. On Wednesday's it's $3 for adults, $2 for seniors over 65.

Wednesday afternoon, September 7, 4:45 p.m. Birding by Boat on the Fox
River. Join club member Jack Pomatto on a special evening birdwatching
trip on the Fox River in and north of St. Charles. Board the 50
passenger paddleboat at Pottawatomie Park in St Charles and cruise the
river for birds. The trip cost is $18.00. The boat will cruise until

Meet at the parking lot on Gary's Mill Rd. (just north of Roosevelt Road
- Route 38) about 1/2 mile west of Winfield Road.

Saturday, September 10, 8:00 a.m. Springbrook Prairie F.P.
Beginners' walk cosponsored with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage
County. It will be slower paced with attention given to learning the
basics in bird identification. Meet at the model airplane parking lot
on the west side of Plainfield-Naperville Rd. just south of 75th St.
