This is the birding hotline report of the Madison Audubon Society for
Saturday, May 20th.

A GLOSSY IBIS was present recently for a few days at Horicon Marsh at
the old state headquarters, but has not been reported for about 5
days. Also at Horicon, this time off the boardwalk on the auto tour,
was spotted a BLACK-NECKED STILT, but seeing it was unpredictable, and
again there have been no recent reports. Horicon Marsh nonetheless
remains a great place to explore. Off the same boardwalk were a pair
of WILSON'S PHALAROPES and a pair of LESSER YELLOWLEGS.

Small numbers of DOWITCHERS have been present at 9 Springs Natural
Area, and have been identified, after some trouble, as LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHERS. They have been in one of the first 3 ponds. Warblers and
sparrows can also been seen there, particularly if one walks on the
trails at the perimeter of the settling ponds.

The Lost City part of the UW Arboretum has again produced HOODED
WARBLERS. They have been seen and heard near the first intersecting
trail off the main trail from the parking lot at the end of Martin
Street, which goes west from Fish Hatchery.

Another good place for warblers is the Honeeum area of the UW
Arboretum. This is located at and northwest of the intersection of
Monroe, Odana, and Nakoma.

Good birding!
