SP., MISSISSIPPI KITE, COMMON MOORHEN, BLACK-NECKED STILT, WHIMBREL,
RED KNOT, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, GULL-BILLED TERN, CASPIAN TERN,
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, GRAY KINGBIRD,
CLIFF SWALLOW, WINTER WREN, GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, BICKNELL'S THRUSH,
TENNESSEE WARBLER, CAPE MAY WARBLER, BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, CERULEAN
WARBLER, MOURNING WARBLER, SUMMER TANAGER, CLAY-COLORED SPARROW,
LINCOLN'S SPARROW and seasonal and local reports of interest.
New Jersey's eighth record of a GRAY KINGBIRD made brief appearances
in Cape May on May 20 and 21 and not seen since. The Cape May and
Sandy Hook FRIGATEBIRD SP. were last seen May 18. Cape May also
hosted a SWAINSON'S WARBLER May 23 on Lighthouse Avenue near CMBO.
Sandy Hook was home to 21+ species of warblers May 18, 21 and 25 with
CAPE MAY WARBLER, BAY-BREASTED WARBLER and TENNESSEE WARBLER noted
all three flight days and a MOURNING WARBLER May 19 and 24 and 6 on
May 25. Late was a PALM WARBLER, May 25. Other Sandy Hook highlights
include: LEAST BITTERN, May 19 and 23; a MISSISSIPPI KITE, May 24;
COMMON MOORHEN, May 23; RED KNOT, May 24; BLACK-HEADED GULL (first
year), May 25; OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, May 21 and 23; YELLOW-BELLIED
FLYCATCHER May 22, 24 and 25; CLIFF SWALLOW, May 23; multiple GRAY-
CHEEKED THRUSHES, May 22, 24 and 25; SUMMER TANAGER, May 20 and 24; 3
LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, May 23; and most unusual at this date a singing
CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, May 18 and 23 near the Gunnison Lot.
The two BLACK-NECKED STILTS at Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR were last
seen May 20. Brig also hosted 350 WHIMBREL, May 21 and on May 19 and
21 a dozen GULL-BILLED TERNS and three CASPIAN TERNS as well as six
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS. An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was discovered at
Tatum Park in Middletown, May 24.
Garret Mountain Reservation in West Paterson continues to be
outstanding this month with reports of: 23 species of warblers May 20
and 21 species May 22; 2 to 4 CAPE MAY WARBLERS May 21 to 25; BAY-
BREASTED WARBLER, May 21-22; TENNESSEE WARBLER, May 20-21; OLIVE-
SIDED FLYCATCHER May 20-21; WINTER WREN, May 25 (unusual location);
YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, May 23; GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, May 20-23 and
25; BICKNELL'S THRUSH, May 22 and 25; and LINCOLN's SPARROW, May 21-23.
Remarkable was a CONNECTICUT WARBLER discovered at Voorhees State
Park May 19 marking the second year in a row we have had a visitation
in NJ of this strictly fall warbler. A KENTUCKY WARBLER was observed
there the same day.
CLIFF SWALLOWS were reported this week at Bull's Island SP, the
Stillwater bridge and Assiscong Marsh. Old Mine Road hosted 16+
warblers May 21 and 23 including 10 CERULEAN WARBLERS, a BAY-BREASTED
WARBLER and a MOURNING WARBLER. A pair of GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLERS is
present at Van Ness Road near Layton.
North Hudson Park in North Bergen produced 14 species of warblers May

Laurel Hill Park in Secaucus family of COMMON RAVEN continues.

Glassboro Woods was home to a KENTUCKY WARBLER, May 21.

weekend should tell the toll takers when entering the park that you
are birding at Sandy Hook and not parking in a beach parking lot in
order to avoid the parking fee. If you do subsequently park in a
beach lot you will be subject to a ticket.
