This is the Michigan Statewide Bird Report for Thursday, September 1st,
2005. It is sponsored by the Audubon Society of Kalamazoo.
In BERRIEN COUNTY, in mid-afternoon on August 27th, an adult LONG-TAILED
JAEGER*, 1 juvenile PARASITIC JAEGER, and a JAEGER, unidentified to species
were seen off shore of New Buffalo. 1-2 EURASIAN COLLARED DOVES* remained to
at least August 29th, in and around the Three Oaks village park, at the
intersection of US-12 & Elm Street. On August 27th & 28th, 1 AMERICAN AVOCET
was seen along the shoreline at the north end of Warren Dunes State Park. On
August 27th & 28th, a PRAIRIE WARBLER was seen near the entrance to the
Yellow Birch Trail (Warren Dunes SP), at the end of Floral Lane. As of
August 30th, at least 1 YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER remained on breeding
grounds, along the Galien River near Three Oaks.
In MARQUETTE COUNTY on August 30th, 1 adult, light-morph PARASITIC JAEGER
was seen offshore, which is a probable first county record. Near Ishpeming
on August 26th, 2 BLACKED BAKED WOODPECKERS were reported.
In ALGER COUNTY on August 28th, a BUFF-BRSEATED SANDPIPER was seen on the
break wall at Grand Marais.
In MONROE COUNTY, at the Point Mouillee State Game Area, August 27th, 1
juvenile LITTLE BLUE HERON was observed, flying from the Vermet Unit, to the
Lead Unit. Additionally, 2 AMERICAN AVOCET were seen in the Vermet Unit.
Also reported from Point Mouillee State Game Area, August 27th: 1 AMERICAN
WHITE PELICAN, 1 WESTERN SANDPIPER, 4 STILT SANDPIPERS, 1 BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER and 1 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE.
In WASHTENAW COUNTY, an AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was reported on August 24th,
along M-14, west of Godfredson Road.
In BAY COUNTY, at the Karn Plant in Bay City, 1-2 SNOWY EGRETS were reported
throughout the week.
In MIDLAND COUNTY, August 25th, a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was seen at the
Chippewa Nature Center in Midland.
