DICKCISSEL
DUSKY FLYCATCHER

Sunday, May 28
RARE BIRD ALERT (OUT of TOWN): A male DICKCISSEL continued at a feeder in
Jordan River.
A DUSKY FLYCATCHER was banded at the Rocky Point Bird Observatory in
Metchosin. A reminder that access is restricted here as it is located on
military property.
There was no relocation today of a possible YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER
reported yesterday.
A possible PRAIRIE FALCON was seen over the Ardmore area of North Saanich.

Saturday, May 27
RARE BIRD ALERT: A possible YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was at the 'Bedrock'
property at 4655 Kerryview Drive in the Prospect Lake area. At the very
least this may be either a RED-NAPED or possibly a RED-NAPED X
YELLOW-BELLIED hybrid. Confirmation is requested as this would only be the
second record for YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER for the Victoria checklist.
Birders are welcome to visit the property, but please be respectful.
RARE BIRD ALERT (OUT of TOWN): A male DICKCISSEL is visiting a feeder near
Jordan River. To find the property, less than 1km northeast of Jordan River
off the West Coast Road/Highway 14 note Forebay Road followed shortly by two
more roads on your right, the second of which leads to several camp-style
homes. Park at the edge of the field in the middle and look for the last
house on the right with many bird feeders which are visible through the
fence. Please be respectful of private property.
5 BLACK SWIFTS were over the Rocky Point area. BLACK SWIFTS were also at
Quamichan Lake in Duncan.
Out-of-town, a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was in the Linley Valley in Nanaimo.
3 SANDHILL CRANES were along East Saanich Road in a recently harvested hay
field near Vantreight Farms.

Friday, May 26
No reports.

A DUSKY FLYCATCHER was seen in the oaks near the reservoir at Summit Park in
Victoria.
A PARASITIC JAEGER was observed at Whiffen Spit in Sooke.
2 SANDHILL CRANES were observed migrating north over Juan de Fuca Strait
near Pedder Bay in Metchosin.
A WESTERN KINGBIRD was along Lochside Trail just above Blenkinsop Lake in
Saanich.

A sub-adult HEERMANN'S GULL was at Clover Point along the Victoria
waterfront.

Tuesday, May 23
RARE BIRD ALERT: A male CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD was along Thomson Place on
Mount Newton in Central Saanich.

Holme's Creek in Duncan.
All seven local swallow species were at the McIntyre reservoir near the
Michell Farm in the Martindale Valley with a BANK SWALLOW and PURPLE MARTINS
present. Nearby was a relatively late AMERICAN PIPIT. 6 MOURNING DOVES were
along Puckle Road and 2 SANDHILL CRANES remained on the south side of
