This is the Kentucky rare bird alert, sponsored by the Kentucky
Ornithological Society. This update is current as of May 30, 2006 at
11:00 AM EDT. This is a summary of the sightings posted at
http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm , with additional information on the
location and/or dates of the rare and unusual. The highlights of this
update are:



A new GREAT BLUE HERON nesting site was located this week. The rookery
is located in Harrison County on the south fork of the Licking River,
and contained approximately 50 nest (active and inactive).



A major migration movement of SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER is underway.
Numbers exceeding 500 were totaled by one individual this morning at
several locations in Paradise WMA and at Meng's Pond. Several
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, and SEMIPALMATED PLOVER were also noted at some
of these sites. 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER were seen at the West Franklin
Road slough in Henderson county.
