Welcome to the Birding Hotline for interior Alaska as of May 30, 2006.

AWESTERN WOOD PEEWEE was at Lancaster Dr. on May 28.
An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was behind a pond at 51.5 mile
Chena Hotsprings Rd. the same day.

A RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD and a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE
were at the Peat Ponds off of Sheep Creek Rd. on May 27- .

Another OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was on Farmer's Loop
about one mile from the Steese Highway on May 26.

Two RED-BRESTED NUTHATCHES were reported on May 25-
One at Creamer's Field near the banding station and one off of
Potter Road in the Cripple Creek area.

Two of out latest migrants, ALDER FLYCATCHER and STILT
SANDPIPER, were at Creamer's Refuge on May 24.

Also on May 24th, 3 STILT SANDPIPERS were at the South
Cushman Ponds, a GREAT GRAY OWL was on the UAF ski
trails near the Potato Field, and a CHIPPING SPARROW was
at the intersection of Miller Hill Rd. & Yankovich Rd. across
from the cemetery.

Four BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were in the front pond
at Creamer's Refuge on May 22. A MERLIN, BALD EAGLE,
and AMERICAN KESTREL were also on the refuge that day.

Upcoming events include:

A Guided Birdathon Walk to Smith Lake will take place on June 3.
Join Gail Mayo from the Arctic Audubon Society for a leisurely
birding walk to a fantastic little lake near UAF. Meet at 8 AM at
the West Ridge ski hut. Please register by phone (451-7159) by 3
June. $5 minimum donation to the Birdathon is required.
