This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Friday, June 2nd, 2006.
An ATLANTIC PUFFIN and a pair of RAZORBILLS were seen from White and Seavey Islands
on the Isles of Shoals on May 29th. Nesting ROSEATE, ARCTIC, and COMMON TERNS are
also present on the islands and some of these have been reported from the coastal
area during the past week. A BLACK GUILLEMOT was seen on the coast in Rye on May
27th.
A first-year BLACK-HEADED GULL was seen at Hampton Beach State Park on May 27th.
Other gulls present on the coast during the past week have been small numbers of
LAUGHING and BONAPARTE'S GULLS. A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen at the Rochester Waste
Water Treatment Plant on May 28th.
An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER was seen in Hampton Harbor on June 1st. Also present were
18 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 12 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 100 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, and
3 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS. A single BRANT was seen in Hampton Harbor on May 27th.
A LEAST BITTERN was seen in the marsh at the north end of Odiorne Point State Park
in Rye near the bunker Battery Seaman on May 29th.
An adult LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen in the marsh near the wooden bridge on Route 1A
in Rye, and 2 LEAST TERNS were seen near Eel Pond in Rye, all on May 29th.
A DICKCISSEL was found in West Swanzey on May 26th, and relocated on the 27th, but
has not been reported since then.
A CERULEAN WARBLER was heard singing at Pawtuckaway State Park in Nottingham on May
27th.
GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were reported from the Laconia Airport, the Concord Airport and
the Pease International Tradeport airfield area during the past week.
7 SALTMARSH SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS, and a NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW were seen at
Chapman's landing in Stratham on May 27th.
BICKNELL'S THRUSHES were reported from the top of Cannon Mountain in Franconia Notch
on May 28th, and halfway up the Mount Washington Auto Road on May 29th.
21 species of warblers were seen at Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in
Jefferson including CAPE MAY, BAY-BREASTED, PALM, MOURNING, WILSON'S and CANADA on
May 29th. A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, a RUSTY BLACKBIRD, and an OLIVE-SIDED
FLYCATCHER were seen at the refuge on May 28th.
An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was reported from Church Pond Bog in Albany on May 28th.
One was also reported from Bartlett Road in Kensington, and one was found at the
Seabrook firing range, both on May 27th.
A MOURNING WARBLER was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on May 27th, and one
was heard on Mirror Lake Road in Thornton on May 28th.
4 BAY-BREASTED WARBLERS and a RUSTY BLACKBIRD were seen at Long Pond in Benton on
May 29th.
A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was reported from near Round Pond at Pawtuckaway State Park
in Nottingham on May 27th. BLACK-BILLED CUCKOOS were reported from several locations
during the past week.
