There have been no reports since Monday, May 29, on the BLACK-THROATED
SPARROW discovered in Springbank on Sunday, May 28. The bird was seen
several times by Carmen Lake at her home at 32 Windmill Way on Sunday,
May 28, and then was seen and also photographed by at least one other
observer on Monday, May 29. Carmen last saw the bird on the evening of
May 29. This species is native to the arid and semi-arid areas of the
American southwest and is extremely rare in Alberta with less than a
handful of records.
A male BOBOLINK was seen northwest of Cochrane on Sunday, June 4. The
bird was seen by Andrew Slater; it was 300 metres east of the Grand
Valley Rd on TwpRd 280. Andrew reported at least 2-3 YELLOW RAILS the
same day at a wetland on the Horse Creek Rd, 9.5 km north of Hwy 1A.
Also at this location, he reported 2-3 NELSON'S SHARP=TAILED SPARROWS
and 6-7 LECONTE'S SPARROWS.
Dave Brown reported 4 SWANS made a stop at Goose Lagoon, at 80 Ave & 36
St NE, on Thursday, June 1, while Mary Huston and Wendy King observed a
LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE east of Linden at TwpRd 294 & RgeRd 243 on Sunday, June 4.
