EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -
This is the Voice of Audubon for Monday, June 5.
A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER discovered yesterday in the field on
the north side of Baker Bridge Road in Lincoln was not reported there today,
a CALIFORNIA GULL belatedly reported from Columbus Park in South Boston
where it was found within a flock of RING-BILLED GULLS last Friday has
also not been relocated, nor has the NORTHERN WHEATEAR that was last
seen at Nantucket last Wednesday.
Two-day totals of seabirds seen in Provincetown during the storm on Saturday
and Sunday included 14 SOOTY SHEARWATER, 125 WILSON'S STORM-
PETRELS, 1 LEACH'S STORM-PETREL, and roughly 500 NORTHERN
GANNETS, and seen from Nauset Beach in Eastham yesterday were 5
COMMON LOONS, 1 GREATER SHEARWATER, 3 WILSON'S STORM-
PETRELS, and 6 NORTHERN GANNETS.
Additional reports from the weekend were few due to the stormy weather.
Seen at the Beech Forest in Provincetown were an ACADIAN FLYCATCHER,
1 LEAST FLYCATCHER, 1 NORTHERN PARULA, 2 MAGNOLIA
WARBLERS, 1 BLACKPOLL WARBLER, and 1 MOURNING WARBLER,
and miscellaneous reports included a LEAST BITTERN at Plum Island, a
CERULEAN WARBLER in Pepperell, an AMERICAN BITTERN at the
Great Meadows Refuge in Concord, 4 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS and 3 LEAST
SANDPIPERS at Nine-acre Corner in Concord, a BLACK VULTURE in
Mattapoisett, a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL in Harwich, and a
LITTLE BLUE HERON and a WILLET belonging to the western race in
Chatham.
