Highlights

A EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was in a yard on Kennebunk Beach June 4 and 5.

A ROYAL TERN flew by Outer Green Island in Casco Bay on June 3.

York County

A CAROLINA WREN was calling in York.

On Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunk there were 4 PIPING PLOVER NESTS and 3
pairs of LEAST TERNS. A EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was seen and heard in a yard
on Kennebunk Beach June 4 and 5. At the Kennebunk Plains birders found 4-6
UPLAND SANPIPERS, 12 GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS, and 3 CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS. One
sparrow was on the north side of Route 99, singing from the far edge of the
Plains, and two were singing near the electrical substation on McGuire Road.


Scarborough Marsh Area

On Eastern Road on June 5, birders observed many NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED
SPARROWS, 2-3 SALTMARSH SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS, 2 VIRGINIA RAILS, 1 MARSH
WREN, 1 LINCOLN SPARROW, 1-2 SAVANNAH SPARROWS, WILLOW FLYCATCHER, and
BOBOLINKS.

PIPING PLOVERS were seen at Higgins Beach, along with 60 BLACK SCOTERS,
single SURF and WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, and SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS.

On Ferry and Western Beaches in Scarborough, birders recorded 1 PIPING
PLOVER, 1 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER, 3 ROSEATE TERNS, 50 RUDDY TURNSTONES, a
male GADWALL, and a LITTLE BLUE HERON on June 4.

Greater Portland and Western Maine

Seen off Dyer Point in Cape Elizabeth were SOOTY and MANX SHEARWATERS, 40
NORTHERN GANNETS, 75 WILSON'S STORM PETRELS, 1 RAZORBILL, 3 RED-THROATED
LOONS, and BLACK GUILLEMOTS. Three BRANT were roosting at Kettle Cove in
Cape Elizabeth on June 6.

A ROYAL TERN flew by Outer Green Island in Casco Bay on June 3.

The LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH is still singing near a stream along Hurricane
Road in Falmouth. Seen along the power line cut from Hurricane Road to
Blackstrap Road were 10 PRAIRIE WARBLERS, 1 FIELD SPARROW, 5 INDIGO
BUNTINGS, 2 ALDER FLYCATCHERS, 8 BOBOLINKS, and 5 EASTERN TOWHEES.

BAY-BREASTED and BLACKBURNIAN WARBLERS were seen in Wilton, along with
VESPER SPARROW, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, and 8 RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS.

Birders found 12 species of warblers in the Oquossoc and Rangeley area,
including 2 BAY-BREASTED and several BLACKBURNIAN warblers.

Midcoast

A SHARP-SHINNED HAWK and 2 WOOD DUCKS were seen in Phippsburg.

A RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER was in a yard in Cundy's Harbor.

Observed on Monhegan Island this week were BLUE GROSBEAK, PHILADELPHIA
VIREO, BLACKBURNIAN, CAPE MAY, and BAY-BREASTED WARBLERS, BROWN THRASHER,
and YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER.

Central Maine

Two NORTHERN HARRIERS were seen in Dixmont.

At the Shirley Bog in Greenville, two pairs of GRAY JAYS were detected on
June 6.

Eastern Maine

Four hundred fifty BLACK GUILLEMOTS were seen near Roque Island, along with
CAPE MAY and BAY-BREASTED WARBLERS and a MERLIN.

A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen in Columbia Falls.

At Corea Heath, there were 6 WILSON'S WARBLERS, 6 PALM WARBLERS, 5 ALDER
FLYCATCHERS, 1 WILLOW FLYCATCHER, 1 WILLET, and 5 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS.

A male KING EIDER was spotted off Mount Desert Island, between Southwest
Harbor and the Acadia National Park Seawall Picnic Area. The bird was most
recently reported on June 7. From Otter Point at Acadia National Park, a
birder found 8+ NORTHERN GANNETS and two SOOTY SHEARWATERS on June 4.

Northern Maine

In Dover-Foxcroft, there were two pairs of BROWN THRASHERS.

An immature GOLDEN EAGLE was seen along the Saint John River, near Daaquam,
Quebec.
