WESTERN KINGBIRD
Wednesday, June 21
A WESTERN KINGBIRD was half-way along Willingdon Road at the Victoria
International Airport.
Tuesday, June 20
2 TUFTED PUFFINS were at Gordon's Beach west of Sooke.
A BULLOCK'S ORIOLE and a WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE were both at Welch and Livesay
Roads in the Martindale Valley of Central Saanich.
A VAUX'S SWIFT was over Mount Douglas in Saanich, and RED-EYED VIREO was
again at the Swan Creek trestle near Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary in Saanich.
A male CINNAMON TEAL was at Rithet's Bog off Chatterton Way in Saanich.
Monday, June 19
A TUFTED PUFFIN was again at Gordon's Beach.
Sunday, June 18
RARE BIRD ALERT (OUT-of-TOWN): For the last few days a male HOODED ORIOLE
continues in Seattle, Washington (at the corner of Magnolia Blvd and
Montfort Street). Check the 'Tweeters' e-group on-line, or call the
Washington Bird Box at (206) 281-9172 for updates.
Locally, GADWALL were reported from Panama Hill Park and at Viaduct Flats,
both in Saanich.
OSPREY are being reported at a variety of locales by a number of observers.
4 SANDHILL CRANES lingered in a field off John Road in North Saanich.
Saturday, June 17
RARE BIRD ALERT (OUT-of-TOWN): An EASTERN PHOEBE continues at Surrey Lake in
Surrey (off 152nd St, north of 72nd Ave). Also still present at the park was
an ALDER FLYCATCHER. Call the Vancouver Rare Bird Alert at (604) 737-3074
for updates.
11 CASPIAN TERNS were at the north end of Esquimalt Lagoon off Ocean Blvd in
Colwood.
A family of two adults and three young BARRED OWLS were at Horth Hill
Regional Park in North Saanich.
Friday, June 16
A RED-EYED VIREO was near the Swan Creek trestle at Swan Lake Nature
Sanctuary. This is a species formerly more common around Victoria which has
been scarce the last few summers, but it is definitely present in better
than average numbers this year.
Thursday, June 15
An adult TUFTED PUFFIN was just offshore at Gordon's Beach.
There were 50 CASPIAN TERNS at Billings Spit off Kaltasin and Billings Roads
in Sooke. Nearby, 20 PURPLE MARTINS were at the Ayum Creek colony off
Goodridge Road.
