VOICE OF AUDUBON FOR MONDAY, JUNE 26 (2006)
A Sandwich Tern was seen this afternoon at Eel Point on Nantucket, and
other reports from the island include 9 White-winged Scoters, 2 Surf
Scoters, 1 Little Blue Heron, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 36 Roseate
Terns, 138 Common Terns, 2 Arctic Terns, 5 Ruddy Turnstones, and 1
Yellow-billed Cuckoo.
Another Sandwich Tern was found yesterday at Race Point in Provincetown,
where other birds included 200 Laughing Gulls, 1 Lesser Black-backed
Gull, 200 Common Terns, 15 Roseate Terns, 3 Arctic Terns, 1 Royal Tern,
and 1 Black Tern, and seen in Truro were 5 Greater Shearwaters, 8 Sooty
Shearwaters, 1 Manx Shearwater, 12 Wilson's Storm-Petrels, 30 Northern
Gannets, and a Bald Eagle.
A report from Bolton Flats included 2 Hooded Mergansers, 1 Green-winged
Teal, 10 Spotted Sandpipers, 1 Virginia Rail, 6 Willow Flycatchers, 105
Bank Swallows, 3 Marsh Wrens, 2 Yellow-throated Vireos, 4 Indigo
Buntings, and 12 Swamp Sparrows, and a breeding bird survey along the
Ware River between Rutland and Barre produced 1 Red-shouldered Hawk, 2
Virginia Rails, 23 Eastern Wood-Pewees, 24 Least Flycatchers, 2
Yellow-throated Vireos, 20 Blue-headed Vireos, 71 Red-eyed Vireos, 2
Winter Wrens, 9 Golden-crowned Kinglets, 48 Veerys, 52 Hermit Thrushes,
17 species of wood warblers including 38 Chestnut-sideds, 8 Magnolias, 7
Black-throated Blues, 16 Yellow-rumps, 35 Black-throated Greens, 12
Blackburnians, 41 Pines, 127 Ovenbirds, and 12 Canada Warblers, plus 34
Scarlet Tanagers, 39 Eastern Towhees, 9 White-throated Sparrows, and 8
Indigo Buntings.
Reports from Plum Island included 6 Blue-winged Teal, 15 Green-winged
Teal, 2 Manx Shearwaters, 16 Wilson's Storm-Petrels, 1 Least Bittern, 1
King Rail, 1 Clapper Rail, 9 Black-bellied Plovers, 2 Semipalmated
Plovers, 3 Greater Yellowlegs, 11 Lesser Yellowlegs, 3 Semipalmated
Sandpipers, 6 Least Sandpipers, 1 Short-billed Dowitcher, 10 Roseate
Terns, 10 Willow Flycatchers, 8 Brown Thrashers, 47 Saltmarsh
Sharp-tailed Sparrows, and 2 Seaside Sparrows, and miscellaneous reports
from the weekend included a Least Sandpiper and 2 Cliff Swallows at
Nine-Acre Corner in Concord, and a Common Raven in Dennis.
