VOICE OF AUDUBON FOR FRIDAY, JUNE 30 (2006)
The Sandwich Tern that was seen at Nantucket on Monday was seen there
again on Tuesday, and other birds reported from the island this week
included 3 Greater Yellowlegs, 1 Short-billed Dowitcher, and 2 Arctic
Terns.
Seabirds seen on a boat trip from Newburyport to Stellwagen Bank on
Wednesday included 5 Common Loons, roughly 2000 Greater Shearwaters,
2000 Sooty Shearwaters, 5 Manx Shearwaters, 10,000 Wilson's
Storm-Petrels, 40 Northern Gannets, 4 Parasitic Jaegers, and 2 Black
Guillemots, and reports from Plum Island this week included 2
Blue-winged Teal, 1 Bufflehead, 1 Least Bittern, 1 Northern Harrier, 1
King Rail, 1 Greater Yellowlegs, 1 Lesser Yellowlegs, 6 Semipalmated
Sandpipers, 8 Least Sandpipers, 6 Short-billed Dowitchers, 2 Wilson's
Phalaropes, 59 Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrows, and 4 Seaside Sparrows.
Miscellaneous reports have included 29 Glossy Ibises in Rowley, an
Orchard Oriole in Essex, 61 Savannah Sparrows, 32 Bobolinks, and 20
Eastern Meadowlarks in Saugus, 4 Least Sandpipers and 2 Cliff Swallows
at Nine-Acre Corner in Concord, and an Orchard Oriole elsewhere in
Concord.
