Saturday, July 1, 2006. 11:00 pm update. Compiled and transcribed by David

CASSIN'S AUKLET

Saturday, July 1
A CASSIN'S AUKLET and an adult HEERMANN'S GULL were off Botanical Beach at
Port Renfrew.
A HEERMANN'S GULL was at Clover Point along the Victoria waterfront.
2 RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKERS were at the hydro right of way north of
Francis/King Regional Park off Munns Road in Saanich, and 2 were also at the
Havenwood Centre off Heatherbell Road in Colwood.

Wednesday, June 28
A NORTHERN GOSHAWK, and a pair of MERLIN were along the railway tracks off
Humpback Road near Goldstream.
An EASTERN KINGBIRD was in a field at the Aylard Farm entrance to East Sooke
Regional Park off Becher Bay Road.

Tuesday, June 27
RARE BIRD ALERT: A male MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD was over downtown Sooke in
the evening. It was seen in loose association with TURKEY VULTURES. The bird
could now be anywhere along the waterfront from the Sooke Basin all the way
to Victoria or even offshore via boat. If accepted, this would represent the
first record for the Victoria checklist. Note that a frigatebird,
unconfirmed to species, was over Saanich Inlet in January 1989.

Monday, June 26
A singing RED-EYED VIREO continues at the Swan Creek trestle near Swan Lake
Nature Sanctuary in Saanich.
2 CASPIAN TERNS were at Esquimalt Lagoon in Colwood.
A PEREGRINE FALCON was over Harbour Road in Vic West just north of the
Johnson Street Bridge.
An EASTERN KINGBIRD continued along Puckle Road in the Martindale Valley of
Central Saanich, and a GREATER YELLOWLEGS was nearby off Martindale Road.
