Feature Birds
---------------------------
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT

Tuesday, July 4
RARE BIRD ALERT: A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was on the west side of Rithet's Bog
in Saanich this morning along the chip trail that parallels Chatterton Way.
The bird was heard and briefly seen in the "island" of thick vegetation just
east of the trail. It could not be relocated later in the day, but is likely
still in the general area. This represents only the third record for the
Victoria checklist.
Also present at Rithet's was a GREEN-WINGED TEAL and later a VAUX'S SWIFT
was overhead.
RARE BIRD ALERT (OUT-of-TOWN): A BLACK PHOEBE was in Osoyoos in the Okanagan
at 7003 Nighthawk Road.
Locally, a VIRGINIA RAIL was at Viaduct Flats off Interurban Road in
Saanich.

Monday, July 3
No reports.

Sunday, July 2
More southbound peeps were reported with LEAST and WESTERN SANDPIPERS at
both Witty's Lagoon in Metchosin and the Goodridge Peninsula in Sooke.
A PEREGRINE FALCON was over Douglas and Herald Streets in downtown Victoria.
A NORTHERN HARRIER was seen in the Martindale Valley of Central Saanich.

Saturday, July 1
A CASSIN'S AUKLET and an adult HEERMANN'S GULL were off Botanical Beach at
Port Renfrew.
A BARN OWL was photographed over the Dallas Road waterfront near the foot of
Government Street.
Another HEERMANN'S GULL was at Clover Point along the Victoria waterfront.
2 RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKERS were at the hydro right of way north of
Francis/King Regional Park off Munns Road in Saanich, and 2 were also at the
Havenwood Centre off Heatherbell Road in Colwood.

Friday, June 30
RARE BIRD ALERT (OUT-of-TOWN): A freshly dead LESSER NIGHTHAWK was recovered
at Iona Island Regional Park in Richmond. This represents only the second
record for British Columbia and follows on the heels of our first record
which was off Tofino on June 5th.
