Welcome to Pennsylvania Audubon's and the Patriot-News' Birdline. This
Birdline covers sightings made primarily during the week prior to
Thursday, July 6, 2006.
ADAMS COUNTY:
A nesting WOOD THRUSH was found in a Gettysburg yard on July 4 (DB).
CARBON COUNTY:
On June 30 in the extreme northwestern corner of the county there were 5
TURKEY VULTURES, AMERICAN CROWS and 3 COMMON RAVENS observed chasing
each other (AK, KS).
Birds found in the eastern portion of the county on July 4 included
BROAD-WINGED HAWK, BLUE-HEADED VIREO, VEERY, 4 BLACK-THROATED BLUE
WARBLERS, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, PINE
WARLBER, HOODED WARBLER and CANADA WARBLER (DK).
CUMBERLAND COUNTY:
Two DICKCISSELS were found near Newville on July 4 (VG).
LANCASTER COUNTY:
Birds seen at Conejohela Flats on June 28 included 1 MUTE SWAN, 56 WOOD
DUCKS, MALLARD, DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, GREAT BLUE HERON, 1 GREAT
EGRET, GREEN HERON, 1 adult and 2 immature BALD EAGLES, 13 KILLDEER, 2
SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, 2 BONAPARTE’S GULLS, RING-BILLED GULLS, 2 FORSTER’S
TERNS, 1 BLACK TERN, AMERICAN CROW, TREE SWALLOW and COMMON GRACKLE
(BS).
A BALD EAGLE was seen in an unspecified breeding bird atlas block on
June 30 (AH).
TIOGA COUNTY:
Birds seen around Lake Williams on July 4 included WHITE-EYED VIREO,
CEDAR WAXWINGS, YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, PRAIRIE WARBLER, WORM-EATING
WARBLER, 2 SCARLET TANAGERS, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS and COMMON GRACKLES
(BH, JH).
