Audubon Society’s Cape May Bird Observatory. This week’s message was
prepared on Saturday July 8. The roster this week includes sightings
of WILSON’S STORM PETREL, GREATER SHEARWATER, EUROPEAN GOLDFINCH,
SWAINSON’S WARBLER, ROSEATE TERN and LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL.

A SWAINSONS WARBLER was “pished” up at the Cape May Point State Park
near the “Pitch Pines” interpretive trail sign on 7/2. There has
been no further report of this bird since its initial sighting.

On 7/7 a EUROPEAN GOLDFINCH was reported from a private feeder on
Alexander Ave. in Cape May Point. Please use the utmost respect for
private property if you venture to Cape May Point to look for this bird.

One GREATER SHEARWATER was seen in a large feeding flock of gulls and
terns off of St. Peter’s jetty on 7/2.

On 7/5, 200 WILSON’S STORM PETRELS were counted from the Cape May-
Lewes Ferry in the Delaware Bay.

At least one ROSEATE TERN continues to be seen in Cape May Point this
week, with the last report coming in on 7/7.

Also, the LESSER BLACK-BACK GULL that has been seen on and off over
the last few weeks was reported on 7/7.


CMBO’s bookstore hours are as follows: Northwood Center on East Lake
Drive in Cape May Point is open Thursday through Tuesday, 9-4:30.
The Northwood Center will be closed on Wednesdays through the months
of July and August and will resume a seven day a week schedule in
September. The Center for Research and Education on Route 47 in
Goshen is open 7 days a week, 9-4:30.

search of Audubon’s Shearwater, White-faced Storm-Petrel, Long-tailed
Jaeger, and other warm-water species. Another trip visiting New
Jersey waters is scheduled from Freeport, Long Island Sep 10, looking
