EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -

This is the Voice of Audubon for Monday, July 10.

Seabirds recorded on Saturday on a boat trip from Hyannis to points east of
Nantucket and Cape Cod included 1 NORTHERN FULMAR, 870 GREATER
SHEARWATERS, 600 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, 3 MANX SHEARWATERS,
roughly 8000 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS, 1 LEACH'S STORM-PETREL,
17 NORTHERN GANNETS, 1 POMARINE JAEGER, 2 PARASITIC JAEGERS,
5 unidentified jaegers, 3 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS, and 3 BLACK
TERNS, and weekend reports from Stellwagen Bank included roughly 450
GREATER SHEARWATERS, 550 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, 3 MANX
SHEARWATERS, and 1000 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS.

Weekend reports from Plum Island included 51 GADWALL, 1 GREEN-
WINGED TEAL, 2 LEAST BITTERNS, 11 GLOSSY IBISES, 8 SEMI-
PALMATED PLOVERS, 18 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 40 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, 1 WHIMBREL, 1 HUDSONIAN GODWIT, 41 SEMI-
PALMATED SANDPIPERS, 210 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 2 STILT SAND-
PIPERS, 204 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 3 LITTLE GULLS, 7
BROWN THRASHERS, 1 BLACKPOLL WARBLER, and 1 ORCHARD
ORIOLE.

Birds counted coming into the evening roost at Kettle Island in Manchester
included 91 GREAT EGRETS, 2 TRICOLORED HERONS, 20 LITTLE
BLUE HERONS, 235 SNOWY EGRETS, and 78 GLOSSY IBISES, and a
BALD EAGLE was also seen over the island.

Miscellaneous reports from the weekend included 3 WHIMBREL and a
BLACK TERN at Nantucket, an out-of-season BUFFLEHEAD and 2 STILT
SANDPIPERS in Hyannis, a COMMON RAVEN at the Cumberland Farm
fields in Middleboro, 2 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS in Marblehead, 2
ORCHARD ORIOLES in Westwood, and 3 ORCHARD ORIOLES in
West Newbury.
