This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Friday, July 14th, 2006.



A first-summer plumaged BLACK-HEADED GULL was seen, along with 25 BONAPARTE'S GULLS
on the coast in Rye on July 9th.



145 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS were seen along the coast on July 9th.



5 ROSEATE TERNS were seen from Route 1A in Hampton, feeding in the Hampton River, on
July 10th.



5 BICKNELL'S THRUSHES and 2 BOREAL CHICKADEES were reported from the Tripyramid
Mountains in Waterville Valley in on July 9th.



2 BOREAL CHICKADEES were reported from Mount Martha in Carroll on July 8th.



A MOURNING WARBLER, and a possible ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER were reported from Parker
Mountain in Strafford on July 10th.



A CAROLINA WREN was heard at the Whitefield Airport on July 8th. Reports of this
species from this far north are unusual.



Small groups of southbound migrating shorebirds have been reported along the coast
and from a few inland locations during the past week. Species reported included
RUDDY TURNSTONE, SANDERLING, SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, LEAST
SANDPIPER, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, and WHIMBREL.



A WHITE-WINGED DOVE, first seen at the Cocheco Valley Humane Center at the County
Farm complex in Dover on July 1st, was last reported on July 4th, and has not been
relocated since then. To reach the Cocheco Valley Humane Center take Exit 9 off of
the Spaulding Turnpike. At the end of the exit ramp, if coming from the south, take
a left, or if from the north, a right. Go about one mile to Sixth Street, and take a
right. Go about 3/4 of a mile to County Farm Road. Go left on County Farm Road and
take it to the end (about 1 mile). Take a left into the County Farm complex and then
another immediate left on the access road to the Humane Society. The Society is
behind the corrections building. The feeder is in front of the buildings. Look for
the bird perched on the feeder, on the ground, and on nearby fences, power lines and
poles.
