Highlights

A BRIDLED TERN was seen again on Outer Green Island in Outer Casco Bay.

Four CATTLE EGRETS were seen in Weskeag Marsh in Thomaston.

York County

A CAROLINA WREN was singing at Fort Foster in Kittery, while a RED-BELLIED
WOODPECKER was seen at the intersection of Route 103 and Haley Road.

At Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunk, there were 6 young PIPING PLOVERS and 2
ROSEATE TERNS.

A HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen off East Point in Biddeford.

Scarborough Marsh Area

A WHIMBREL was at Pine Point with other shorebirds and ROSEATE TERNS.

On a canoe tour at the Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center on July 14,
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were seen for the first time this year. An American
was also seen on the tour.

Greater Portland and Western Maine

A BRIDLED TERN and a PEREGRINE FALCON, along with several ROSEATE TERNS,
were seen on Outer Green Island in Outer Casco Bay.

A RED-NECKED GREBE was seen at Broad Cove in Cape Elizabeth and a CAROLINA
WREN was singing elsewhere in Cape Elizabeth.

At Cavalry Cemetery in South Portland, a CAROLINA WREN was singing.

At the Bigelow Preserve, in Stratton, there were many GRAY JAYS, BOREAL
CHICKADEES, and 1 OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER.

BICKNELL'S THRUSH, GRAY JAY, and PHILADELPHIA VIREO were recorded at
Baldpate Mountain in Grafton.

Midcoast

A pair of PIPING PLOVERS was at Reid State Park in Georgetown.

Four NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS, 30 LEAST SANDPIPERS, and 25
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were seen at Weskeag Marsh in Thomaston, along with 4
CATTE EGRETS.

Two UPLAND SANDPIPERS were seen at Clarry Hill in Union.

Central Maine

Two SANDHILL CRANES, 12 BLACK TERNS, a few PURPLE MARTINS, VIRGINIA RAIL,
MARSH WREN, and a PIED-BILLED GREBE were seen at Messalonskee Lake in
Belgrade.

A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen in Dixmont.

Eastern Maine

A PARASITIC JAEGER was seen near the breakwater in Bar Harbor. A SOUTH
POLAR SKUA was seen on a whale-watching trip out of Bar Harbor. On a
different whale-watching trip out of Bar Harbor, PARASITIC JAEGER, NORTHERN
FULMAR, about 10 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, 2 MANX SHEARWATERS, many GREATER
SHEARWATERS, three LEACH'S STORM-PETRELS, and seven or eight NORTHERN
GANNETS were seen.

A KING EIDER was seen at the Seawall on Mount Desert Island.

On a whale-watching trip out of Bar Harbor, PARASITIC JAEGER, NORTHERN
FULMAR, about 10 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, 2 MANX SHEARWATERS, many GREATER
SHEARWATERS, three LEACH'S STORM-PETRELS, and seven or eight NORTHERN
GANNETS were seen.

In Eastport, 600 BONAPARTE'S GULLS and 1 ICELAND GULL were seen.

A BOREAL CHICKADEE was on Roque Island in Jonesport.

At Whitehorse Island there were 75 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES.

Northern Maine

An AMERICAN BITTERN is nesting in a field in Houlton.
