This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for July 17, 2006 covering the period
July 10-16, 2006.



An immature DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT was seen on the Connecticut River
south of the Ledyard Bridge in Norwich on July16th, an unusual sighting as
the nearest known breeding site is on northern Lake Champlain and it is
very early for young to be dispersing from their colony.



A MERLIN was spotted in Pittsfield on the 12th of July.



The two SANDHILL CRANES that were last sighted on July 3rd at Lake Winona
were heard again on July 12th and seen shortly after 6 a.m. on July 15th
taking flight from an area south of the boat ramp.



Shorebirds are starting to come through, with two SOLITARY SANDPIPERS seen
in Lunenburg on the 10th of July.



A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was observed in Pittsfield on July 12th and in
Tinmouth Channel on the 16th.



The Middlebury CAROLINA WREN continues to be observed almost daily.



A RED CROSSBILL was sighted in Groton State Forest near Railroad Bed Road
on July 15th.
