This is the birding hotline report of the Madison Audubon Society for
Thursday, July 20th.
Observers at 9 Springs Natural Area on July 17th reported finding
LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, LEAST
SANDPIPERS, and numerous KILLDEER. The last central pond next to the
cattails remains the best location thus far for shorebirds.
On the 18th a visit to the Hyslop Road pond resulted in sighting a
WHOOPING CRANE in the midst of several SANDHILL CRANES. Other species
seen included GREAT BLUE HERON, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, GREATER and
LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, and KILLDEER. Mudflat are
appearing on the edges of the pond and may be a good place to watch
