PALM WARBLER
RUDDY TURNSTONE

Saturday, July 29
RARE BIRD ALERT: A PALM WARBLER was sighted in a yard in the Interurban area
of Saanich. This is an exceptional record for the Victoria checklist area as
it represents the first summer record for our area -- most records are for
fall-winter only.
A WHIMBREL was at Loon Bay near the Royal Victoria Yacht Club off Beach
Drive in Oak Bay.
12 CASPIAN TERNS were with hundreds of CALIFORNIA GULLS at Jordan River.

Friday, July 28
No reports

Thursday, July 27
No reports.

Wednesday, July 26
At Clover Point along the Victoria waterfront was a RUDDY TURNSTONE.

Tuesday, July 25
At Rithet's Bog off Chatterton Way in Saanich were a SOLITARY SANDPIPER and
a SORA.
A SHARP-SHINNED HAWK was at Viaduct Flats off Interurban Road in Saanich.

Monday, July 24
The WANDERING TATTLER continued at the Ogden Point Breakwater off Dallas
Road along the Victoria waterfront.

Sunday, July 23
A BROWN PELICAN was near Race Rocks in Juan de Fuca Strait on the southern
tip of Vancouver Island. Offshore nearby there were 40 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE.
4 or 5 possible AMERICAN PIPITS were reported at Island View Beach Regional
Park in Central Saanich.
Over the last week the warm weather has benefited our local COMMON
NIGHTHAWKS with numerous reports coming into the tape. As usual, numbers
seem highest in the Colwood and Langford areas with as many as 63 birds
being tallied over Colwood Creek Park in Colwood, but good numbers have also
been reported from the Cordova Bay area as well as in Duncan.
