Welcome to Pennsylvania Audubon's and the Patriot-News' Birdline. This
Birdline covers sightings made primarily during the week prior to
Thursday, August 3, 2006.
CENTRE COUNTY:
The Julian wetlands along Route 220 produced 6 GREAT EGRETS, 4 GREEN
HERONS, 1 SOLITARY SANDPIPER and a few NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS on
July 31 (LG).
Birds seen at Colyer Lake on July 31 included 1 GREAT EGRET, 1 GREEN
HERON, 3 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, 2 LESSER YELLOWLEGS and 2 EASTERN SCREECH
OWLS (LG).
CUMBERLAND COUNTY:
State Game Lands 169 produced 20 WOOD DUCKS, 15 GREAT BLUE HERONS, 15
GREAT EGRETS, 7 GREEN HERONS, 4 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS, 1 KING RAIL,
2 YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS, 1 BARRED OWL and 5 BELTED KINGFISHERS, EASTERN
WOOD-PEWEE, WILLOW FLYCATCHER, WARBLING VIREO, RED-EYED VIREO, WOOD
TRUSH, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT and SCARLET TANAGER on August 1 (AM).
DAUPHIN COUNTY:
There were 3 SNOWY EGRETS at Wildwood Lake Wildlife Sanctuary on July 27
(CR).
LANCASTER COUNTY:
Birds seen at Conejohela Flats between July 27 and August 1 included 1
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, 1 SNOWY EGRET, 13 BALD EAGLES, 1 BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVER, 7 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 63 KILLDEER, 9 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, 3
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 5 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 2 SANDERLINGS, 3 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS, 106 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 7 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 9 SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHERS, 1 BONAPARTE'S GULL, 250 RING-BILLED GULLS, 5 HERRING GULLS,
2 COMMON TERNS, 28 FORSTER'S TERNS, 1 LEAST TERN and 1 PROTHONOTARY
WARBLER (DH).
MCKEAN COUNTY:
The 2 adult and 2 fledged MERLINS continue to be seen near their nest at
a withheld location (for their protection) through at least July 31
(JF).
YORK COUNTY:
On July 29, the Safe Harbor area produced RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER, DOWNY
WOODPECKER, HAIRY WOODPECKER, EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, BARN SWALLOW, CAROLINA
CHICKADEE, CAROLINA WREN, HOUSE WREN, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, EASTERN
BLUEBIRD, WOOD THRUSH, AMERICAN ROBIN, GRAY CATBIRD, CEDAR WAXWING,
SCARLET TANAGER, EASTERN TOWHEE, NORTHERN CARDINAL, INDIGO BUNTING,
COMMON GRACKLE, AMERICAN GOLDFINCH and HOUSE SPARROW (AM).
