A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER continued at the Santa Clara River Estuary through
July 29. Another was along the LA River just below Long Beach Blvd. on
August 2.
A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was seen flying over Carson on July 30.
An early HERMIT WARBLER was at DeForest Park in Long Beach on July 30.
A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was reported at a feeder in Agua Dulce on July 31.
Farther afield but of great interest this week was a YELLOW GROSBEAK
discovered in Inyo County on July 31. The bird was at Keough's Hot Springs
between Big Pine and Bishop just off Highway 395. This record, if accepted
as a naturally occurring vagrant, would constitute a first state record.
The bird was seen through August 2 and could not be found the following day.
This report is sponsored by the Los Angeles Audubon Society.
