Three MEW GULLS were seen at Elliston Park in Calgary On Sat. Sept 3, by Rob Worona.
One of these birds was an adult, while the other 2 were juveniles. These birds are
early fall migrants to our area. Elliston Park is on 17th Ave. SE at 68th St.

Rob Worona reported a very early ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK at Eagle Lake SE of Strathmore on
Sun. afternoon Sept 4.

The first SABINE'S GULLS of the fall season have been observed in our area. Reid
Barclay watched an adult and a juvenile from 4-5:50 pm on Sun. Sept 4 at the north
end of Langdon Reservoir on Hwy 22X just E of Hwy 797. The birds were on the mud
flats, E of the large island, and then flew southward.

Other fall arrivals included 18 AMERICAN PIPITS seen on Sat. Sep 3 by Terry Korolyk
in the Irricana Sloughs, then 12 AM.PIPITS reported by Rob Worona at Eagle Lake on
Sept.4. Rob also reported 200 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE at Eagle Lake on Sept.4.
Terry Korolyk reported 30 WHITE-FRONTED GEESE at the Cattleland Feedlots Slough on
the NE corner of Hwys 817 and 564 junction on Sept.3. Reid Barclay watched a single
WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE at Langdon Reservoir on Sept 4.

Recent small songbird reports included a CAPE MAY WARBLER and a BLUE-HEADED VIREO
seen by Rob Worona in North Glenmore Park in Calgary on Sun. morning Sept. 4, and in
the same park on Sept 3 Rob observed 2 PHILADELPHIA VIREOS and an OVENBIRD.

Terry Korolyk observed 1-2 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS at Rge Rd 252 in the Irricana
Sloughs area on Sat. Sept 3.

Also of interest, a SHORT-EARRED OWL seen to the E of the main access road to Frank
Lake 6 km E of Hwy 2 at Hwy 23 seen by Andrew Hart at 2 pm Fri. Sept 2. On Wed. Aug
31 Dwight Knapik reported 5 WHITE-FACED IBIS and 2 immature BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT
HERONS near the blind at Frank Lake. On Fri. Sept 2, Dwight observed at least 10
WILSON'S SNIPE at the Calgary Zoo private ranch S of Calgary. Also Sept 2 at the Zoo
Ranch, Dwight observed a male BELTED KINGFISHER catch and devour a Tiger Salamander.
