This is the Chicago Audubon Society bird report for Wednesday, August
9, 2006 at 7:00pm.
A LAUGHING GULL was seen today on Montrose Beach. Recent reports
from Montrose the last few weeks include HOODED MERGANSER, WILLET,
SANDERLING, RUDDY TURNSTONE, SEMIPALMATED and BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS,
LEAST and SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, YELLOW-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON, YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, CAROLINA and SEDGE WRENS, LEAST
FLYCATCHER, HORNED LARK, BAY-BREASTED, CANADA, and GOLDEN-WINGED
WARBLERS, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, SHARP-TAILED SPARROW, and an escapee
RED BISHOP.
Four STILT SANDPIPERS were seen yesterday at Rollins Savannah along
with DICKCISSEL and four HENSLOW'S SPARROWS.
OSPREYS were seen this week along the Waukegan Beach, at Tri-County
State Park, and at Lake Calumet.
A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen August 6th at Lincoln Park's North Pond.
Also on August 6th in the Lake Calumet area, two LITTLE BLUE HERONS
were at Indian Ridge Marsh, four LITTLE BLUES and four YELLOW-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERONS were at Heron Pond, one LITTLE BLUE was at the Burnham
Prairie Marsh, and a SNOWY EGRET and 17 CASPIAN TERNS were at the
Harborside International Golf Course. A WHITE PELICAN was on Lake
Calumet on August 3rd.
PIPING PLOVERS were seen August 1st at Great Lakes Naval Base, and
July 18th and 19th on the Waukegan Beach.
