EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -

This is the Voice of Audubon for Friday, August 11.

The BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD that was trapped and banded in
Brewster last Sunday has not been seen since. The bird was discovered at the
hummingbird feeders at the residence at 36 Blueberry Pond Drive in Brewster.
The homeowner welcomes birders, but visitors are reminded to be mindful
of neighbors.

Recent sightings from the Southern end of Stellwagen Bank have included 600
GREATER SHEARWATERS, 200 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, 10 MANX
SHEARWATERS, 2000 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS, 30 POMARINE
JAEGERS, 6 PARASITIC JAEGERS, 1 LONG-TAILED JAEGER, 1 BLACK-
LEGGED KITTIWAKE, 100 COMMON TERNS, and 2 ROSEATE TERNS,
and reports from Plum Island this week have included 2 NORTHERN
HARRIERS, a PEREGRINE FALCON, 200 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS,
50 GREATER YELLOWLEGS. 20 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 1 HUDSONIAN
GODWIT, 700 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 4 WESTERN SANDPIPERS,
60 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 10 STILT SANDPIPERS, 200 SHORT-
BILLED DOWITCHERS, 1 WILSON'S PHALAROPE, 4 LITTLE GULLS,
1 BLACK TERN, and 2 BLACK SKIMMERS.

Seen on the flats on the North River in Marshfield were 15 GREAT EGRETS,
1 LITTLE BLUE HERON, 250 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, and 1600
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, at Nantucket there were 5 WHIMBREL,
800 SANDERLINGS, 750 COMMON TERNS, 200 ROSEATE TERNS, 2
FORSTER'S TERNS, and 31 BLACK TERNS, and miscellaneous reports
this week have included a PARASITIC JAEGER on the northern end of
Stellwagen Bank, 2 DICKCISSELS in Natick, 6 FISH CROWS and 2 BROWN
THRASHERS in Scituate, 2 LITTLE BLUE HERONS in Plymouth, a
YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON in Mashpee, an out-of-season
HARLEQUIN DUCK and 150 RED KNOTS at Nauset Marsh in Orleans,
and 3 HUDSONIAN GODWITS and 1 MARBLED GODWIT at South
Beach in Chatham.
