This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Friday, August 18th, 2006.
A ROYAL TERN was seen on Seavey Island in the Isles of Shoals on August 16th, and 2
ATLANTIC PUFFINS were seen on White Island in the Isles of Shoals on August 12th.
2 FORSTER'S TERNS, a HUDSONIAN GODWIT, 30 GREAT EGRETS, and 60 SNOWY EGRETS were all
reported from Hampton Harbor on August 17th. Also present were 70 BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVERS, 125 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 5 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 2 WILLETS, 2 WHIMBRELS, 35
SANDERLINGS, 110 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 10 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 3 WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPERS, and 4 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS
A WESTERN SANDPIPER was seen on rocks just south of Concord Point in Rye on August
12th.
An UPLAND SANDPIPER was seen at the sod fields at Horseshoe Pond in Concord on
August 13th, and one was seen on Storrs Hill in Lebanon on August 11th.
2 BONAPARTE'S GULLS were seen at Leonard Pond on Lake Umbagog on August 12th, an
unusual inland sighting.
27 PIED-BILLED GREBES consisting of 11 adults and 16 juveniles were seen at the
Brentwood Mitigation area on August 16th.
There were reports of migrating COMMON NIGHTHAWKS from several locations during the
past week.
GREAT EGRETS have been reported from several inland locations during the past week,
in addition to the usual coastal sightings.
2 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS were seen at the Pondicherry National Wildlife
Refuge in Jefferson on August 14th. They were in a black spruce wetland 1-mile north
of Cherry Pond.
18 BOREAL CHICKADEES and 13 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS were seen by hikers on the
Tuckerman's Ravine and Lion's Head trails on Mount Washington, and 12 BOREAL
CHICKADEES and 10 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS were seen by hikers on the trail to Mount
Pierce via Mizpah Spring, all on August 13th.
