EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -

This is the Voice of Audubon for Friday, August 25.

Reports from Plum Island this week have included 3 NORTHERN SHOVELERS,
a PIED-BILLED GREBE, 1 NORTHERN HARRIER, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON,
1 MERLIN, 1 WESTERN SANDPIPER, 1 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 2 BUFF
BREASTED SANDPIPERS, 1 CASPIAN TERN, and 3 FORSTER’S TERNS,
and reports from Stellwagen Bank have included 3 CORY'S SHEARWATERS,
700 GREATER SHEARWATERS, 50 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, 20 MANX
SHEARWATERS, roughly 3500 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS, 15 NORTHERN
GANNETS, 28 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, 5 POMARINE JAEGERS, 5
PARASITIC JAEGERS, 1 LONG-TAILED JAEGER, 6 unidentified jaegers,
and 200 COMMON TERNS.

Seen at Plymouth Beach were an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and 4
BLACK TERNS, and a report from the Manomet section of Plymouth included
a YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, a WESTERN SANDPIPER, a
LEAST FLYCATCHER, 3 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSHES, 1
MOURNING WARBLER, 1 CANADA WARBLER, and 1 YELLOW-
BREASTED CHAT.

At the Oxbow Refuge in Harvard there was an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER,
189 BOBOLINKS, and 25 CHIPPING SPARROWS, at South Beach in
Chatham there were 7 HUDSONIAN GODWITS, 1 MARBLED GODWIT,
a CURLEW SANDPIPER, and 1 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE, and recent
reports from Nantucket have included 1 LITTLE BLUE HERON, 1 MARBLED
GODWIT, 1 LITTLE GULL, 420 ROSEATE TERN, 1 FORSTER’S TERN,
and 70 BLACK TERNS.

Miscellaneous reports this week have included single DICKCISSELS in
Wellfleet and Gloucester, a YellOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON in
Rockport, a YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER in North Andover, a
PEREGRINE FALCON and 2 ORCHARD ORIOLES in Essex, 35 FORSTER’S
TERNS at Buck’s Creek in Chatham, and many reports of migrating COMMON
NIGHTHAWKS including 385 at the Oxbow Refuge in Harvard on Tuesday,
265 over Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge Wednesday, and 1029 over
Leicester yesterday evening.

The WESTERN REEF HERON that has been frequenting the mouth of the
Piscataqua River between Maine and New Hampshire was still present today.
