This is the Kentucky rare bird alert, sponsored by the Kentucky
Ornithological Society. This update is current as of August 28, 2006 at
11 :00 AM EDT. This is a summary of the sightings posted at
http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm , with additional information on the
location and/or dates of the rare and unusual. The highlights of this
update are:
The LITTLE STINT at the retention basin in Louisville was last seen on
the 20th.
An unconfirmed, but likely, GOLDEN EAGLE was seen in the Berea area on
the 17th and not relocated.
After an August the 18th sighting of a PIPING PLOVER at Paradise, 2
additional sightings have occurred. On the 24th at Minor Clark Fish
Hatchery 2 PIPING PLOVER were observed and were still there on the 27th.
A single PIPING PLOVER was seen on the 26th at the Falls of the Ohio.
On the 21st a single BARN OWL was seen in Pulaski County where the owner
of a barn said he had been seeing 2 individuals.
Along with an increase of shorebirds, a single BAIRDS SANDPIPER at the
LITTLE STINT retention basin being part of, the warblers are also
starting to make a show. From several locales about the state the
following warblers have been noted: MAGNOLIA, TENNESSEE, CANADA,
CHESTNUT-SIDED, WILSON'S, AMERICAN REDSTART, and BLACKBURNIAN. A likely
YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER was also seen this week.
