Welcome to the Birding Hotline for interior Alaska as of August 30, 2006.
Two OSPREYS were seen flying over Creamer's Field on August 27.
More than 20 PINE SISKINS were at the bird feeders at the Alaska
Bird Observatory visitor center on August 25. A PEREGRINE
FALCON was at Creamer's Refuge the same day.
Juvenile BLACK BRANT and AMERICAN PIPITS were seen at
Creamer's Refuge on August 24. Two BLACK-BILLED MAGPIES
were at the South Cushman Ponds the same day. Two GREAT GRAY
OWLS were seen near the 'Welcome to Delta' sign north of Delta
Junction the same day.
A BOREAL OWL was singing along Lancaster Dr. on August 23.
Fledgling RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS and a HARLAN'S
HAWK were at the peat ponds off of Sheep Creek Road on August 21.
Upcoming events include:
Friends of Creamer's Field natural history walks are taking place at the
refuge
through August 31. Walks start Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 2:00 PM,
Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 PM, and Wednesdays at 9:00 AM. All walks
originate at the Farmhouse.
Alaska's Falcons & Falconry will take place on September 9. Kids ages
10-14 are invited to join ABO from 1 - 4 PM for an afternoon camp
featuring Alaska's Falcons & Falconry. Participants will have the
opportunity to meet with a practicing falconer and watch him fly his
birds. Cost: $8 for ABO members, $10 for non-members. For more
information call 451-7159.
Owls of Alaska, a Flint Hills Family Fun with Birds event, will
take place on September 16 at the Alaska Bird Observatory. Drop
in any time between noon and 2 PM for crafts, stories, games,
displays, and a visit with a live owl. Free!
