Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday September 8. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On September 6 an EASTERN PHOEBE was seen near Lakeview. Among the many
migrants at Malheur NWR Headquarters September 7 was a BLACK-AND-WHITE
WARBLER. That day a probable PHILADELPHIA VIREO was at Fields. On September
6 at least two MANX SHEARWATERS were among a large shearwater swarm off
Tierra Del Mar. On September 5 a RUFF was at Baskett Slough NWR, and at
least four SWAINSONšS HAWKS were along Smithfield Road north of the refuge.
On September 3 a first year SHORT-TAILED ALBATROSS was found dead on the
beach at Seven Devils Wayside north of Bandon.

Heavy migrations were reported during the week with the first major flocks
of shearwaters seen along the coast, several ANCIENT MURRELETS just
offshore, and flocks of PURPLE MARTINS being seen.

On September 4 a CATBIRD was near the South Jetty of the Siuslaw River. The
September 5 offshore boat trip to Heceta Bank found a SKUA all three
jaegers, several SABINEšS GULLS, and 120 BULLERšS SHEARWATERS. A SABINEšS
GULL, a PARASITIC JAEGER and two POMARINE JAEGERS were seen September 7 off
the South Jetty of the Columbia River.

On September 3 seven COMMON TERNS were flying west along the Columbia River
off Hood River. On September 5, 20 were seen along the Columbia River off
Lower River Road north of Vancouver. An ACORN WOODPECKER was reported
September 7 on Oak Island on Sauvie Island. On September 2 a BLACK SWIFT was
near Turner.

On September 2 an ACORN WOODPECKER visited a feeder near Tumalo, west of
Bend. On September 3 a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at the east end of
Prineville Reservoir. A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen September 4 at Summer
Lake.
