Sightings for September 1
An adult FERRUGINOUS HAWK was found in the late afternoon at Seperation
Lake, which is found along Hwy 5a, S. of Kamloops. Take Beresford Road off
the hwy to get to the lake. The hawk was seen and photographed in the large
cottonwood snag beside the lake.
On August 31, a first fall MAGNOLIA WARBLER was in Sutherland Hills Park in
Kelowna. Also here was an AMERICAN REDSTART, a PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER and
a BLACK SWIFT (RT).
On August 31, two adult and one juvenile RUSTY BLACKBIRD were at the Ellis
Reservoir which is located 12.5 kilometers up the Beaverdell Road, E. of
Penticton (LN).
Sightings for August 27
A male INDIGO BUNTING was reported from the Vaseux Banding Station N. along
Hwy 97. N. of Vaseux Lake this morning (DB).
Sightings for August 24
At Bubna Slough, the southernmost pond on Glenmore Road in Kelowna, there
was a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE (MB,m.ob)
A STILT SANDPIPER was at the Slater Pond, the northernmost pond on Glenmore
(MB,m.ob).
On the 23rd of August, a female type AMERICAN REDSTART was seen in
Sutherland Hills Park in Kelowna (RT). On the 22nd of August, large numbers
of migrant birds were present in Sutherland Hills Park including 2 LAZULI
BUNTINGS, 15 WARBLING VIREOS, CASSIN'S VIREOS and a RED-EYED VIREO, 19
WESTERN TANAGERS, 15 EASTERN KINGBIRDS and 1 WESTERN KINGBIRD (CC).
An AMERICAN REDSTART was also caught at the Vaseux Lake Banding Station on
Aug 23 (BL).
Two and possibly three AMERICAN REDSTARTS were in the willows at the E. Pond
at the Chichester Bird Sanctuary in Kelowna on August 22 (CC). Other
highlights here included 4 WILSON'S WARBLERS, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER and a
VIRGINIA RAIL (CC).
A TENNESSEE WARBLER was heard singing on the census at the Vaseux Lake
Banding Station on August 20 (DB).
A large flock of AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were seen flying over Vaseux Lake
earlier in the month, however the exact date was not given (RC).
