Two ARCTIC TERNS were seen by Mike Mulligan, Ken Havard and Milt Spitzer at
Chestermere Lake, east of Calgary, on Sept 2. The adult and first year bird were
perched on the sea wall between the parking lot and the lake north of the boat
launch on the west side of the lake south of Hwy 1A. The birds were seen again the
evening of Sept 2, but attempts by other birders to locate them on Sept 3 failed.

BLACKBURNIAN and CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS were reported this last week. Terry Korolyk
observed 2 first fall female BLACKBURNIANS in trees at the parking lot in the Hull's
Wood area of east Fish Creek PP on Sept 2 in the am. Several observers reported
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS; Alan Fishkin and Bill Walker saw an adult CHESTNUT-SIDED in
Hull's Wood on Aug 27 and at least 3 CHESTNUT-SIDED were at IBS during the week.
Tony Timmons watched a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER and a PHILADELPHIA VIREO in the
Burnsmead area of FCPP on Sept 3.

Banders at IBS banded a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET on Sept 3.

A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen by John Bregar flying over his house south of Spruce
Meadows on Sept 2.

Dwight Knapik at the Calgary Zoo Ranch reported a SANDHILL CRANE in the pm Sept 1,
and an EASTERN PHOEBE on Sept 3.

In the afternoon of Sept 1, Terry Korolyk observed a PEREGRINE FALCON perched on a
light standard across from a small slough south of Greengate Garden Centre at Canyon
Meadows Drive and McLeod Trail.

The next scheduled update of the Bird Alert is on Thursday Sept 7.
