ADAMS COUNTY:
A pair of OSPREY was observed diving for fish in State Game Lands 249 on
August 31 (BM).

BEDFORD/SOMERSET COUNTIES:
Allegheny Front Hawk Watch reported tabulating 1 BLACK VULTURE, 2
OSPREY, 2 BALD EAGLES, 3 SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, 1 COOPER'S HAWK and 7
BROAD-WINGED HAWKS between September 1 and 4 (JR, MMc).

CARBON COUNTY:
Beltzville State Park produced 4 CASPIAN TERNS and 1 CAPE MAY WARBLER on
September 2 (BW, DW).

CENTRE COUNTY:
Scotia Barrens yielded WOOD DUCK, TURKEY VULTURE, BROAD-WINGED HAWK,
RED-TAILED HAWK, KILLDEER, 4 RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS, 3 DOWNY
WOODPECKERS, NORTHERN FLICKER, PILEATED WOODPECKER, YELLOW-BELLIED
FLYCATCHER, ACADIAN FLYCATCHERS, 1 LEAST FLYCATCHER, EASTERN PHOEBE,
GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, BLUE-HEADED VIREO, RED-EYED VIREO, BLUE JAY,
AMERICAN CROW, BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE, HOUSE WREN, WINTER WREN,
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, AMERICAN ROBIN, GRAY CATBIRD, BROWN THRASHER, 50
CEDAR WAXWINGS, 6 BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS, TENNESSEE WARBLER, NASHVILLE
WARBLER, NORTHERN PARULA, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS, 20 MAGNOLIA WARBLERS,
CAPE-MAY WARLBER, BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER,
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, BLACKBURNIAN WARBLERS, PINE WARBLER, 3
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS, 10 AMERICAN REDSTARTS, OVENBIRD, COMMON
YELLOWTHROAT, HOODED WARLBER, 3 WILSON'S WARBLERS, 5 CANADA WARBLERS,
EASTERN TOWHEE, NORTHERN CARDINAL, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK and BALTIMORE
ORIOLES between August 31 and September 4 (GG, JV, NB, RFu, RSt).

There were 2 COMMON RAVENS flying over Howard on August 31 (BSn). On
September 3 there were 4 GREATER YELLOWLEGS and 1 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER
(BSn).

A total of 3 COMMON RAVENS were observed flying over Exit 74 along Route
220 on August 31 (BSn).

Toftress pond yielded HERONS, 1 BALD EAGLE, SWALLOWS and CEDAR WAXWINGS
on September 1 (JV).

Birds seen behind the Penn Stater Hotel and Daybridge Childcare Center
on September 1 included EMPIDONAX spp., CEDAR WAXWINGS, AMERICAN
REDSTARTS, CHIPPING SPARROW, FIELD SPARROW, SONG SPARROW and INDIGO
BUNTING (JV).

Bald Eagle State Park yielded 5 COMMON LOONS, 2 DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANTS, 1 GREEN HERON, 3 OSPREY, 10 KILLDEER, 2 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 4
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 1 LEAST SANDPIPER, 15 RING-BILLED GULLS, 2
CASPIAN TERNS, 3 BLACK TERNS, 2 NORTHERN FLICKERS, EMPIDONAX spp., 1
EASTERN PHOEBE, 1 EASTERN KINGBIRD, BLUE JAYS, AMERICAN CROWS, 1 COMMON
RAVEN, TREE SWALLOWS, 1 BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE, 1 EASTERN BLUEBIRD, GRAY
CATBIRDS, EUROPEAN STARLINGS, COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, 1 EASTERN TOWHEE, 6
HOUSE FINCHES and 6 AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES between September 1 and 4 (GG,
BSn, JRi).

The Penn State Retention Pond yielded MALLARDS, AMERICAN CROWS and
REND-WINGED BLACKBIRDS on September 3 (NB).

The Centre Furnace Duck Pond produced CANADA GEESE, MALLARDS, 1
RING-NECKED DUCK, RED-EYED VIREO, BLUE JAY, AMERICAN CROW, TUFTED
TITMOUSE, WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH and GRAY CATBIRD on September 3 (NB).

The following birds were seen at Millbrook Marsh on September 3; CANADA
GOOSE, MALLARD, GREAT BLUE HERON, COOPER'S HAWK, ROCK PIGEON, BELTED
KINGFISHER, RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER, DOWNY WOODPECKER, NORTHERN FLICKER,
EMPIDONAX spp., RED-EYED VIREO, BLUE JAY, AMERICAN CROW, TUFTED
TITMOUSE, AMERICAN ROBIN, GRAY CATBIRD, BROWN THRASHER, CEDAR WAXWING,
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, HOUSE FINCH, AMERICAN GOLDFINCH and HOUSE
SPARROW (NB).

A Stormstown yard attracted AMERICAN ROBINS, CEDAR WAXWINGS,
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER,
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER and AMERICAN REDSTART on September 4 (MBr).

Colyer Lake produced 4 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 1 MALLARD, 1 GREEN HERON, 2
KILLDEER, 1 SPOTTED SANDPIPER, 1 RED-EYED VIREO, 1 BLUE JAY, AMERICAN
CROW, 1 COMMON RAVEN, TREE SWALLOWS, BARN SWALLOW, 3 CEDAR WAXWINGS, 1
EASTERN TOWHEE and 1 AMERICAN GOLDFINCH (MH, NB, RFu).

A CANADA WARBLER was seen in a State College yard on September 4 (MH).

CUMBERLAND COUNTY:
Waggoner's Gap Hawk Watch reported counting 8 OSPREY, 11 BALD EAGLES, 1
NORTHERN HARRIER, 9 SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 1 COOPER'S HAWK, 38
BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 3 RED-TAILED HAWKS and 41 AMERICAN KESTRELS between
September 1 and 6 (RF, DGr).

Some of the better birds seen at Stoughstown Farm Pond between September
3 and 4 included 1 GREEN HERON, 3 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, KILLDEER, 2
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, LEAST
SANDPIPERS, 2 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 3 STILT
SANDPIPERS, 4 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, TREE SWALLOWS, CLIFF SWALLOWS and
BARN SWALLOWS (VG, DG).

State Game Lands 169 produced GREEN HERONS, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO,
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, EASERN WOOD-PEWEE, EMPIDONAX spp., EASTERN
PHOEBES, WHITE-EYED VIREO and BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS on September
4 (DG).

DAUPHIN COUNTY:
There were 2 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 2 COMMON MERGANSERS, 1 MERLIN, 3
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, 1 immature JAEGER (possibly PARASITIC), 1 COMMON
TERN and 1 PURPLE MARTIN near the Fort Hunter Boat Launch on September 2
(CR, RK, DY).

Birds observed on September 3 along the Susquehanna River near the
Rockville Bridge included 5 COMMON MERGANSERS, DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANTS, 2 GREEN HERONS, 1 MERLIN, 3 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, 1 GREAT
BLACK-BACKED GULL, many swallows and 12 CEDAR WAXWINGS (BH).

There was a report of a WILSON'S STORM PETREL being seen along the
Susquehanna River across from Front and State Streets in Harrisburg on
September 2 (DH). An immature PARASITIC JAEGER (probably the same one
seen on September 2 at Fort Hunter) was observed at this location on the
morning of September 3 along with 20 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES (DH). Two
CASPIAN TERNS were also seen across from City Island on September 5
(BK).

The WILSON'S STORM PETREL was relocated at the Royalton Boat Launch on
the morning of September 3 (DH). Later in the morning a SOOTY TERN was
observed along with 6 BLACK TERNS and many swallows (RK, AM, JH, PR,
JRe).

There were 2 LAUGHING GULLS just upstream on the Susquehanna River from
the Pennsylvania Turnpike bridge on September 3 (DH).

A RED-NECKED PHALAROPE and 1 COMMON NIGHTHAWK were seen along the
Susquehanna River near the Marysville Boat Launch on September 3 (RK,
AM, JH, PR, JRe).

FRANKLIN COUNTY:
At least 55 TURKEY VULTURES were seen flying south near Chambersburg on
September 4 (TD).

LANCASTER COUNTY:
Conejohela Flats (best seen by boat) yielded 22 WOOD DUCKS, 50
BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 24 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 LEAST BITTERN, SNOWY EGRET, 2
OSPREY, 3 BALD EAGLES, 1 RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, PEREGRINE FALCON, 2
AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 12 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS,
12 KILLDEER, 5 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, 1 SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 5 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, 80 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 30 HUDSONIAN GODWITS, 5 SANDERLINGS,
30 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 30 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 32 WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPERS, 14 STILT SANDPIPERS, 2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 1 BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER, 9 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 1 LAUGHING GULL, 4 HERRING GULLS,
2 GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS, 1 SOOTY TERN, 12 CASPIAN TERNS, 6 BLACK
TERNS, 9 COMMON TERNS, 8 FOSTER'S TERNS, OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, EASTERN
WOOD-PEWEE, GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, WARBLING VIREO and BOBOLINK
between September 1 and 5 (BS, TA, DH, CR, TH, KK). An adult PARASITIC
JAEGER was seen on September 3 (TR).

A PARASITIC JAEGER was observed chasing gulls below the York Haven Dam
on September 2 (DH).

Birds seen at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area on September 2
included 28 CANADA GEESE, 5 WOOD DUCKS, 2 MALLARDS, 3 WILD TURKEYS, 1
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, 3 GREAT BLUE HERONS, 2 GREAT EGRETS, 2 SPOTTED
SANDPIPERS, 2 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 2 CHIMNEY SWIFTS, 1 BLUE JAY, 8
AMERICAN CROWS, 30 TREE SWALLOWS, 5 BARN SWALLOWS, 2 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS,
2 GRAY CATBIRDS, 4 CHIPPING SPARROWS, 1 COMMON GRACKLE and 1 AMERICAN
GOLDFINCH (PF).

The Susquehanna River near Long Level (York Co., river is Lancaster Co.)
produced 1 SOOTY TERN, BLACK TERNS and FOSTER'S TERNS on September 2
(CP). On September 3 there were DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, GREAT BLUE
HERON, GREAT EGRET, 1 adult PARASITIC JAEGER, GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL,
CASPIAN TERN, FORSTER'S TERN, BELTED KINGFISHER at Long Level (TH).

There were 3 SOOTY TERNS were seen along the Susquehanna River just
below the Columbia-Wrightsville bridge in the evening of September 2
(CP).

A single SOOTY TERN was seen at The Rocks between Columbian and
Washington Boro on September 3 (CR).

Birds seen near the village of Gap between September 3 and 4 included 4
MALLARDS, 6 BLACK VULTURES, 11 TURKEY VULTURES, 1 COOPER'S HAWK, 1
RED-TAILED HAWK, 2 AMERICAN KESTRELS, 34 ROCK PIGEONS, 4 MOURNING DOVES,
2 CHIMNEY SWIFTS, 2 RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS, 1 BELTED KINGFISHER, 1
DOWNY WOODPECKER, 2 NORTHERN FLICKERS, 1 WARBLING VIREO, 1 RED-EYED
VIREO, 3 BLUE JAYS, 5 AMERICAN CROWS, 52 TREE SWALLOWS, 3 BARN SWALLOWS,
2 CAROLINA CHICKADEES, 1 TUFTED TITMOUSE, 1 WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH, 1
CAROLINA WREN, 1 EASTERN BLUEBIRD, 10 AMERICAN ROBINS, 1 GRAY CATBIRD, 2
NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRDS, 50 EUROPEAN STARLINGS, 1 CHIPPING SPARROW, 4 SONG
SPARROWS, 3 NORTHERN CARDINALS, 1 BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD, 4 HOUSE FINCHES,
2 AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES and 13 HOUSE SPARROWS (PF).

LEBANON COUNTY:
Second Mountain Hawk Watch reported tabulating 1 NORTHERN HARRIER
between September 1 and 2 (GK).

A STILT SANDPIPER was found at a pond located along Route 501 south of
Myerstown on September 2 (JH, RM).

MONTOUR COUNTY:
The Montour PPL plant yielded GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 OSPREY, 1 BALD EAGLE,
2 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 1 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, 1 SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 2
KILLDEER, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 8 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 6 LEAST
SANDPIPERS, 16 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES and 3
CASPIAN TERNS between September 2 and 3 (WL, DG, GG).

SCHUYKILL/BERKS COUNTIES:
Hawk Mountain Sanctuary reported counting 21 OSPREY, 11 BALD EAGLES, 10
SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 4 COOPER'S HAWKS, 28 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 2
RED-TAILED HAWKS, 7 AMERICAN KESTREL and 1 MERLIN between September 1
and 6 (LG).

SNYDER COUNTY:
A flock of 10 BLACK TERNS was seen along the Susquehanna River near
Selinsgrove on September 1 (MB).

YORK COUNTY:
A possible albino EASTERN PHOEBE was seen at Gifford Pinchot State Park
on September 1 (KK).
