At Frick Park on 9/6, a CONNECTICUT WARBLER was seen along Connector Trail
(reported to DW by Malcolm Harter); also present was an OVENBIRD (DW); the
CONNECTICUT WARBLER was still present in the evening (DY, MF). On 9/8, 1
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER in the meadow, BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, Hooded
Warbler, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, Eastern Screech Owl (MV). On 9/9, 3 MAGNOLIA
WARBLERS, 1 male BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, 1 male WILSON'S WARBLER, 1
SWAINSON'S THRUSH (MF).
BEAVER COUNTY:
At Independence Marsh on 9/4, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 8 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 5
STILT SANDPIPERS, 6 Solitary Sandpipers, 8 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 1 Spotted
Sandpiper, 4 Least Sandpipers, 3 Semipalmated Plovers, Killdeer (MV); all 8
STILT SANDPIPERS were also reported as seen on 9/4 (MF). On 9/7, 1 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, 5 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 5 Semipalmated Plovers, 1 STILT SANDPIPER,
11 Solitary Sandpipers, 7 Pectoral Sandpipers, 1 Spotted Sandpiper, 4 Least
Sandpipers (MV). On 9/9, 2 Semipalmated Plovers, 55 Killdeer, 5 Solitary
Sandpipers, 1 Least Sandpiper, 6 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS,
4 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 1 WILSON'S SNIPE, 3 Green Herons, 1 Wood Duck, 1
singing WARBLING VIREO, 40-50 Chimney Swifts, 8 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED
SWALLOWS, 1 CLIFF SWALLOW, 1 Wood Thrush (MF). Also seen on 9/9 was 1 STILT
SANDPIPER (MV).
On 9/4 at Dashields Dam, 1 GREAT EGRET, 6 Common Nighthawks, 9
Double-crested Cormorants (MV).
At Raccoon Creek State Park on 9/4, 1 BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, 1 Ruby-throated
Hummingbird, 1 Broad-winged Hawk, 1 OSPREY, 1 BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, 10+
Eastern Wood-Pewees, 2 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS, 1 Acadian Flycatcher, 3-4
unidentified Empidonax sp., 1 Great Crested Flycatcher, 1 Eastern Kingbird,
3-4 singing White-eyed Vireos, many WARBLING VIREOS, many Red-eyed Vireos, 2
VEERIES, 2 Wood Thrushes, 1 male GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, 1 TENNESSEE WARBLER,
1 NASHVILLE WARBLER, 5-6 CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS, 10+ MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, 4

Lodge Road alone; other birds seen were 10+ Eastern Wood-Pewees, 1
YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, 1 Acadian Flycatcher, 2 LEAST FLYCATCHERS, 10
unidentified Empidonax sp., 30+ Scarlet Tanagers, 3-4 Rose-breased
Grosbeaks, 12 Warbler species including 2 CAPE MAY WARBLERS (GM).
On 9/7 at Little Blue Lake, 1 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and 5 GREEN-WINGED
TEAL; on 9/8, 5 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 3 Wood Ducks, 1 SANDERLING, 1 AMERICAN
GOLDEN-PLOVER, 4 Semipalmated Plovers, 5 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, Least
Sandpipers, Semipalmated Sandpipers, 1 PALM WARBLER (MV).
On 9/8 at Big Beaver wetlands, 1 NORTHERN PINTAIL, 9 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 13
Wood Ducks, 1 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 2 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, 1 WILSON'S SNIPE; on 9/9 the SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER was still
present, and 14 BLUE-WINGED TEAL; on 9/10, 2 TRUMPETER SWANS, 1 NORTHERN
PINTAIL, 2 WILSON'S SNIPE, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS (MV).
At the Ambridge Reservoir on 9/9, sightings included Hooded Warbler,
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, American
Redstart, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, BLACKPOLL WARBLER,
BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, White-eyed Vireo, Red-eyed
Vireo, PHILADELPHIA VIREO, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Eastern Phoebe, LEAST
FLYCATCHER, Scarlet Tanagers (MV).
CLARION COUNTY:
In Knox on 9/10, sightings included 1 OSPREY, 22 Turkey Vultures, 5
Broad-winged Hawks (ML).
CRAWFORD COUNTY:
On 9/9 near Miller's Ponds, 6 SANDHILL CRANES were seen in a field (reported
to MV by Jack Christman); also seen that day was 1 BLUE-PHASE SNOW GOOSE
(reported to MV by Ron Leberman).
ERIE COUNTY:
On 9/4 at Presque Isle State Park, sightings included 1 WHIMBREL, 11
SANDERLINGS, 4 Semipalmated Plovers, 14 CASPIAN TERNS, 1 WILSON'S WARBLER, 2
Yellow Warblers, 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler, 1 BLACKPOLL WARBLER, 1
BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, 2 American Redstarts, 4 MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, 4 Common
Yellowthroats (RStr).
INDIANA COUNTY:
On 9/8 at Blue Spruce County park, 48 species were counted including 1
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, 2 YELLOW-THROATED VIREOS, 1 BLUE-HEADED VIREO, 7
TENNESSEE WARBLERS, 4 NASHVILLE WARBLERS, 2 CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS, 3
MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, 16 CAPE MAY WARBLERS, 6 BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS, 1
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, 2 PALM WARBLERS, 3 BAY-BREASTED WARBLERS, 5 BLACKPOLL
WARBLERS, 1 CERULEAN WARBLER, 5 Black-and-white Warblers, 2 OVENBIRDS, 5
Common Yellowthroats, 2 Hooded Warblers, 2 CANADA WARBLERS, 4 Scarlet
Tanagers, 3 Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, 2 Baltimore Orioles (MH and CG).
LAWRENCE COUNTY:
On 9/9 at the marsh on Wampum-New Galilee Road in New Beaver, 9 COMMON
MOORHENS, 1 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 28 Wood Ducks, 3 Green Herons (MV).
WASHINGTON COUNTY:
At the Greencove wetlands on 9/4, 1 MARSH WREN, 1 SORA, 1 COMMON MOORHEN, 2
PURPLE MARTINS, 40-50 Wood Ducks, 1 Pied-billed Grebe (RG).
Over Canonsburg on 9/4 during pre-dawn, flight calls were heard of multiple
Scarlet Tanagers, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, VEERIES, SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, and
a few warblers (RG). On 9/6 near Canonsburg just before a storm, a kettle of
80+ Broad-winged Hawks appeared overhead near a soccer field; also seen that
evening were 30+ Common Nighthawks (RG).
On 9/5 in Washington, 2 MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, 1 BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, 1
Black-and-White Warbler, 1 OVENBIRD; on 9/6, 1 juvenile NORTHERN GOSHAWK (LC).
On 9/9 in Washington Park, 1 Common Nighthawk (LC).
WESTMORELAND COUNTY:
In Greensburg on the evening of 9/4, Common Nighthawks were seen (SM).
In Stahlstown on 9/5, 1 WORM-EATING WARBLER, 3 American Redstarts, 3
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS, 1 KENTUCKY WARBLER, 1 BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, 3
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS, 2 BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS, 2 MAGNOLIA
WARBLERS, 1 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, 1 Acadian Flycatcher; on 9/6, 1 CAPE MAY
WARBLER, 4 BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS, 4 BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS, 1
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, 2 MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, 2 CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS, 1
