WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS

This is the Western Voice of Audubon for Monday September 11, 2006

Reported from Hadley were 8 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 2 NASHVILLE WARBLERS, a
YELLOW WARBLER, 2 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, and 2 CONNECTICUT WARBLERS.

In the meadows along the Connecticut River in Northampton there were 3
AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, a LESSER YELLOWLEGS, an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, 3
CLIFF SWALLOWS, a SEDGE WREN, 2 AMERICAN PIPITS, 4 PALM WARBLERS, a
CONNECTICUT WARBLER, 4 NORTHERN PARULAS, a MOURNING WARBLER, and a DICKCISSEL.

In Northfield there were 12 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, an AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER,
a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, a BAIRD’S SANDPIPER, a GREATER YELLOWLEGS and a
LESSER YELLOWLEGS.

Seen in Longmeadow were 11 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 68 WOOD DUCKS, a BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT HERON, a GREAT EGRET, a GREATER YELLOWLEGS, a LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 2
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, a BAIRD’S SANDPIPER, a GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, and
a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH.

A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON and a LINCOLN’S SPARROW were in Deerfield, GREAT
EGRETS were reported in Hadley and Sunderland, 112 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were
counted in Palmer, a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was reported in Whately, anda
WILSON’S WARBLER in West Springfield.

Reported in the south Berkshire towns of Sheffield and Egremont were 3 GREAT
EGRETS, 70 WOOD DUCKS, 9 VIRGINIA RAILS, 2 SORAS, 35 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 4
BLUE-WINGED TEAL, a GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 10 BLACK VULTURES, and an EASTERN
KINGBIRD.

Reported in Pittsfield were a FISH CROW, a PHILADELPHIA VIREO, a SWAINSON’S
THRUSH, a GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, 2 CANADA WARBLERS, and a LINCOLN’S SPARROW.

Seen in Southwick were 6 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, 2
LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 150 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS, a BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, and a
LINCOLN’S SPARROW.

Found at the Quabbin Reservoir were a COMMON LOON, 2 NORTHERN GOSHAWKS, 255
COMMON NIGHTHAWKS, 4 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, 9 NORTHERN PARULAS, a BLACKPOLL
WARBLER, a CANADA WARBLER and a WILSON’S WARBLER.

Seen on Mt. Tom were 326 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 2 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, and7
NORTHERN PARULAS. Reported in Belchertown were 186 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS, anda
PHILADELPHIA VIREO.

The BROAD-WINGED HAWKS counts over the last two days were 2,363 in Barre
Falls, 1,086 in Russell, and 322 in Granville.
