This is a summary of reports from the Northern California
BirdBox, sponsored by the Golden Gate Audubon Society, compiled
12 September 2006 at 06:10 a.m.

Highlights: MANX SHEARWATER, BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, GRAY CATBIRD,
AMERICAN REDSTART, BLACK-THROATED SPARROW, BREWER'S SPARROW.

San Mateo Co.
-------------
On Sept 11, the BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER continues at the mouth of
Pilarcitos Creek in Half Moon Bay. Access is by Wave Ave, just south of
Venice Blvd. Take the trail straight out towards the ocean, to the
bluff. Keep to the SW corner of the parking lot. Take the trail to your
left to the creek. Wave Ave is off the frontage road along Hwy 1 and
doesn't intersect Hwy 1. If heading south on Hwy 1, take the first right
hand turn after Venice Blvd, follow to next right hand which is Wave
Ave. A hatch male AMERICAN REDSTART was found at the willows next to
Princeton Marsh. (Ron Thorn)

Alameda Co.
-----------
On Sept 11, the juvenile BLACK-THROATED SPARROW was seen Cesar Chavez
park/Berkeley Marina. It flew into the pines behind the OCSC sailing
sign. (Bruce Mast)

Directions from: Louis Libert
Here are some directions again if you need them. Take 80 to the
University exit in Berkeley. You'll want to go west on University
towards the water. Turn right onto Marina which curves to the left and
turns into Spinnaker. Drive west on Spinnaker to the end and park.
Walk to the bay and turn south on the paved trail and just before you
reach the mouth of the marina there is a sign that says OCSC sailing.
Behind the sign and the bushes is a large fire pit with brush in it.

On Sept 11, the Brewer's Sparrow that Bob Richmond found on Sept 9
continued at 11 am today at Hayward Regional Shoreline. It was in the
fennel patch that begins at the end of the Winton Rd parking lot and
extends 100 yards or so along the north side of the trail toward the
shoreline. It loosely associated with Bushtits, American Goldfinches,
and House Finches as they fed in the patch. (Dave Quady)

Contra Costa Co.
----------------
On Sept 11, reporter tried to locate either of the two Brewer's Sparrows
in Richmond first found on Sept 7. Emilie Strauss's bird was in the
fennel patch at the end of Central Ave, where it bends north and
becomes Isabel Rd. Bob Lewis's bird was on the bay trail, a few
hundred yards north from the end of Rydin Rd, near the end of the wire
mesh fence that borders the trail on its west side. No luck at either
spot between 9 am and 10:15 or so, mirroring the results I had early
Saturday morning. (Dave Quady)

San Francisco Co.
-----------------
On Sept 11, the GRAY CATBIRD was refound near the "Y" (left goes to
the glade and right go to the south side) at Middle Lake in Golden Gate
Park. It was identified by sound and sight. (Kay Loughman, Judi Sierra)

Monterey Co.
------------
On Sept 11, a pelagic trip from Monterey reported a MANX SHEARWATER,
(1) FORK-TAILED STORM-PETREL, (2) WILSON'S STORM-PETREL,
(35) BLACK STORM-PETREL, (800) ASHY STORM-PETREL. (Debbie Shearwater)
