This is Pete Bacinski for the Voice of the NJ Audubon Society for
Thursday, September 8, 2005 with reports of AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN,
YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT HERON, COMMON MOORHEN, AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER,
UPLAND SANDPIPER, HUDSONIAN GODWIT, MARBLED GODWIT, WESTERN
SANDPIPER, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, STILT
SANDPIPER, BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, GULL-
BILLED TERN, CASPIAN TERN, BLACK TERN, RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, OLIVE-
SIDED FLYCATCHER, YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, PHILADELPHIA VIREO,
HORNED LARK, GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, TENNESSEE
WARBLER, CAPE MAY WARBLER, TOWNSEND'S WARBLER, BAY-BREASTED WARBLER,
CONNECTICUT WARBLER, MOURNING WARBLER, YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, CLAY-
COLORED SPARROW, PAINTED BUNTING, DICKCISSEL and seasonal and local
reports of interest.

A TOWNSEND'S WARBLER, the ninth for New Jersey if accepted by the
NJBRC, was discovered Sept. 8 at Garret Mountain Reservation, by the
gazebo at the south end of the pond. Garret Mountain also hosted a
PHILADELPHIA VIREO Sept. 2 and a CONNECTICUT WARBLER Sept. 4.

Labor Day Weekend (Sept. 3-5) birds at Forsythe (Brigantine) National
Wildlife Refuge included: the continuing AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, an
immature RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, AMERICAN BITTERN, LEAST BITTERN,
YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, HUDSONIAN GODWIT, many WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPERS, two BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, STILT SANDPIPER, 14 BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPERS, GULL-BILLED TERN, and three CASPIAN TERNS. On Sept. 7 the
refuge hosted five BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, one BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER
and several WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS.

Sandy Hook highlights include: two PHILADELPHIA VIREOS Sept. 2 and
one Sept. 4, a MOURNING WARBLER Sept. 2 and 5, a CAPE MAY WARBLER
Sept. 2, two TENNESSEE WARBLERS Sept. 3 and one Sept. 5, one YELLOW-
BELLIED FLYCATCHER Sept. 3 and three Sept. 4, a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW
Sept. 4, a CONNECTICUT WARBLER Sept. 5, two YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS and
a GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH Sept. 5 and a flyover DICKCISSEL Sept. 4. Most
of the above sightings were from the area of the Boy Scout Camp, the
Garden and the Locust Grove by North Pond.

The Sandy Hook salt pond at Fisherman's beach hosted two BAIRD'S
SANDPIPERS Sept. 4 and singles Sept. 3 to 5, while a few WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPERS and a STILT SANDPIPER were present Sept. 3 to 4. Seven
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were noted there Sept. 8.

Palmyra was the place to be Labor Day weekend with 25 species of
warblers tallied including: six MOURNING WARBLERS, BAY-BREASTED
WARBLERS, TENNESSEE WARBLERS and two GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLERS as well
as an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, several YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS,
PHILADELPHIA VIREO, a GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH and a PURPLE FINCH. Other
birds reported at Palmyra included a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL Sept. 1
and a flyover AMERICAN BITTERN Sept. 4

Island Beach State Park registered two MARBLED GODWITS Sept. 3 to 5
as well as three CASPIAN TERNS and a BLACK TERN Sept. 3. A CLAY-
COLORED SPARROW was also noted there Sept. 2.

Maximum totals for the Johnson Sod Farm south of Pole Tavern on Labor
Weekend include: ten AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, five UPLAND SANDPIPERS,
four BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, seven BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS, and ten
HORNED LARKS. The DeLea Sod Farm on Rte. 40 hosted six BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPERS Sept. 4 and 28 WESTERN SANDPIPERS Sept. 5. Three BUFF-
BREASTED SANDPIPERS were observed at the intersection of Pointers-
Auburn Road and Courses Landing Roads (DeLorme P. 61, D-18) Sept. 4,
while three BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS were discovered on Till Road (DeLorme
P. 61, C-19) Sept. 4.

A female PAINTED BUNTING was discovered at Higbee Beach in Cape May
Sept. 4.

A YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER and a TENNESSEE WARBLER visited Stokes
State Forest Sept. 1, while Owassa Road in Stillwater hosted two
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS Sept. 4 and one Sept. 5.

CONNECTICUT WARBLERS were discovered Sept. 2 & 3 in West Milford and
Sept. 4 at Thompson Park in Lincroft. Overpeck Park produced a
MOURNING WARBLER, a YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW
Sept. 5 and Tenafly Nature Center a YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER Sept. 2.

The COMMON MOORHEN continues at the Allendale Celery Farm as of Sept.
6 and a YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was discovered at Liberty State
Park Sept. 3.
