This is the Santa Barbara Audubon Society's rare bird report being recorded
on Friday, September 22 at 1:00 p.m. If you have a rare bird sighting to
report, call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. For those of you who are getting
the transcript on the Internet, the rare bird alert number for Santa Barbara
is (805) 964-8240.

At the UCSB overlook to Goleta slough, which is just east of the fire
station on campus, a juvenile male RUFF found last week remained most of
this week. Up to four PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were also seen.

In the wetland area at Los Carneros Road and Mesa Road, near UCSB, a second
RUFF and two SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were present this morning. Yesterday, there
were two RUFFS at this location, as well as a TROPICAL KINGBIRD. A female
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was in the pond area on Monday.

Also on Monday, there was a bright PROTHONOTARY WARBLER in Tucker's Grove,
just east of the park entrance road. That bird has not been refound.

At Refugio State Beach this morning, a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER continued in a
eucalyptus tree west of the creek, just inside the campground.

Devereux Slough had three WHITE-FACED IBIS yesterday, and a COMMON TERN. A
BLUE-WINGED TEAL was seen here earlier in the week. A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was
seen Monday near the bridge.

At the Bird Refuge, a BLACK TERN was seen as late as the 17th, as was a WOOD
DUCK.

The BLACK SKIMMERS have returned for the winter on East Beach.

At the Santa Barbara Harbor sandspit on Sunday the 17th was a SURFBIRD and a
WANDERING TATTLER.

Also on Sunday, a WINTER WREN was found at La Mesa Park in Santa Barbara, in
vegetation in the creek bottom in the northwest corner of the park. A
WHITE-WINGED DOVE was also present.

Both the CACKLING GOOSE and the ROSS'S GOOSE remain in the front pond at
Waller Park in Santa Maria.

That is all the bird news for now, but, again, if you have a rare sighting
to report, call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. Good birding in Santa Barbara
County.
