At the Imperial grasslands on the evening of 9/17, 5 NORTHERN HARRIERS were
flying around together; also seen were 3 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 1 Spotted
Sandpiper, 1 Least Sandpiper; on 9/23, 1 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, 1 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 1 Spotted Sandpiper (MV).
On 9/16 at Harrison Hills Park, the Three Rivers Birding Club noted
Sharp-shinned Hawk, 2 PHILADELPHIA VIREOS, 8 Red-eyed Vireos, 1 GRAY-CHEEKED
THRUSH, 6 SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, 4 Wood Thrushes, 1 TENNESSEE WARBLER, 1
NASHVILLE WARBLER, 1 NORTHERN PARULA, 3 CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS, 5 MAGNOLIA
WARBLERS, 1 BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler, 2
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS, 1 BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, 6 BAY-BREASTED
WARBLERS, 5 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS, 2 Black-and-white Warblers, 3 American

On 9/17 at Sewickley Heights Park along the Pine Tree Trail, sightings
included TENNESSEE WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER,
MAGNOLIA WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER,
Black-and-White Warbler, American Redstart, Common Yellowthroat, Hooded
Warbler, 1 PINE WARBLER, Red-eyed Vireo, PHILADELPHIA VIREO, Eastern Phoebe,
Eastern Wood-Pewee, 1 unidentified Empidonax flycatcher, 1 YELLOW-BILLED
CUCKOO, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, Indigo Bunting, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET (MV). On
9/20, 2 SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, 1 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, 1 Scarlet Tanager,
2 NASHVILLE WARBLERS, 6 MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, 4 American Redstarts, 1
Black-and-White Warbler, 1 Brown Thrasher, and others (BV).
At Frick Park on 9/21, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, American Redstart,
NASHVILLE WARBLER, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER,
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, and others; on 9/22, BLACKPOLL WARBLER (drab
immature female), MAGNOLIA WARBLER, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, OVENBIRD (JS and
SS).
At Dashield's Dam on 9/23, GREAT EGRET (MV).
BEAVER COUNTY:
Through 9/18 at the Zelienople Airport, 1 adult BALD EAGLE; an adult BALD
EAGLE has also been seen flying down the Connoquenessing Creek (PN).
At Little Blue Lake on 9/19, 1 SANDERLING, 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 1
Semipalmated Sandpiper, 3 Least Sandpipers, flock of 10 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS
with 3 Least Sandpipers flying over, 8 Wood Ducks, 1 NORTHERN SHOVELER, 5
GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 22 BLUE-WINGED TEAL; on 9/22, 3 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 3
Semipalmated Plovers, 6 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 1
Semipalmated Sandpiper, 3 Least Sandpipers (MV).
On 9/22 at Raccoon Creek State Park, several waves of birds were seen on
Lakeside Lodge Road and Lake Trail, including 8 MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, 1
BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, 6-7 CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS, 2 BLACKBURNIAN
WARBLERS, 3 BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS, 10 BAY-BREASTED WARBLERS, 3
BLACKPOLL WARBLERS, 2 Black-and-White Warblers, 2 TENNESSEE WARBLERS, 2
NASHVILLE WARBLERS, 1 NORTHERN PARULA, 1 OVENBIRD, ~15 Common Yellowthroats,
1 Hooded Warbler, 2 BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, 1 White-eyed Vireo, 1 Red-eyed
Vireo, ~20 Scarlet Tanagers, 3 Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, 1 RUBY-CROWNED
KINGLET, 2 Indigo Buntings (MV and GM).
At Ambridge Reservoir on 9/23, 1 GREAT EGRET, 1 Green Heron, 24 Wood Ducks,
1 Pied-billed Grebe, 1 Solitary Sandpiper, 1 Double-crested Cormorant (MV).
On 9/23 at Montgomery Dam Road in Potter Township, 2 SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, 2
Indigo Buntings, 1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird, 2 Eastern Wood-Pewees, 1
Eastern Phoebe, 1 OVENBIRD, 1 Hooded Warbler, 1 CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, 2
Scarlet Tanagers, 1 Rose-breasted Grosbeak (MV).
At State Gamelands #285 on 9/24, 13 PALM WARBLERS, 1 male CERULEAN WARBLER,
1 HENSLOW'S SPARROW, 2 GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS, 1 LINCOLN'S SPARROW, 3-4
White-throated Sparrows, Catharus thrushes, 6 CAPE MAY WARBLERS, many
SAVANNAH SPARROWS (GM).
On 9/24 at the Big Beaver Wetlands, 1 GREAT EGRET, 2 WILSON'S SNIPE (MV).
CRAWFORD COUNTY:
On 9/17 the GLOSSY IBIS was still present at Miller's Ponds in Pymatuning
(reported to MV by Mike & Evelyn Fowles). It was NOT seen on 9/19, but birds
present in the area were 8 SANDHILL CRANES along Swamp Road; 5 BALD EAGLES
(2 at the Fish Hatchery, 3 at the Wildlife Center); 1 GREAT EGRET at
Miller's Pond; Yellow Warbler, WARBLING VIREO, Red-eyed Vireo, 2
Yellow-rumped Warblers at the Fish Hatchery; BLUE-HEADED VIREO and Common
Yellowthroat at Geneva Wells (BV). On 9/21 at the fish hatchery, 1
first-winter LAUGHING GULL was seen on the shore of the large pond; also
here was a Solitary Sandpiper (MV).
ERIE COUNTY:
On 9/18 at Presque Isle Bay, 1 CASPIAN TERN (at Chestnut Street boat
launch), 1 NORTHERN HARRIER (CK).
INDIANA COUNTY:
On 9/22 in Clarksburg, 1 female MERLIN, CANADA WARBLER; on 9/24,
Ruby-throated Hummingbird, OVENBIRD, 12 Turkey Vultures, 1 Gray Catbird, and
others (MC).
At Blue Spruce County Park on 9/22, highlights of 45 species included 1
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, 4 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS, 2 Red-eyed Vireos, 3
SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, 4 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, 1 TENNESSEE WARBLER, 1
NASHVILLE WARBLER, 1 NORTHERN PARULA, 2 CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS, 3 MAGNOLIA
WARBLERS, 10 CAPE MAY WARBLERS, 5 BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS, 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler, 6 BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS, 1 BLACKBURNIAN
WARBLER, 2 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS, 1 Black-and-white Warbler, 3 American

LAWRENCE COUNTY:
On 9/24 in New Beaver, at the Three Rivers gravel pond were 1 Hooded
Merganser, 3 Pied-billed Grebes, 3 GREEN-WINGED TEAL; at Wampum-New Galilee
Road were 6 COMMON MOORHENS, 1 American Coot, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 2
TRUMPETER SWANS, 26 Wood Ducks, 1 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 Green Heron (MV).
MERCER COUNTY:
At a home in Mercer on 9/19, 1 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER (JB).
SOMERSET COUNTY:
On 9/17 on the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail, sightings included
Red-shouldered Hawk, Red-eyed Vireos, COMMON RAVEN, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, Wood
Thrush, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, 2 BLACK-THROATED BLUE
WARBLERS, American Redstart, OVENBIRD, CANADA WARBLER, Scarlet Tanager (KSJ).
WASHINGTON COUNTY:
Along Old Steubenville Pike Road in Robinson Township on 9/23, 1 AMERICAN
WIGEON (reported to MV by Mike Fialkovich); on 9/24, 2 SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHERS, 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 1 Solitary Sandpiper, 9 Eastern
Meadowlarks, 1 NORTHERN HARRIER (MV).
WESTMORELAND COUNTY:
On 9/22 at Forbes State Forest near Jones Mills, sightings included 5 Turkey
Vultures, 1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird, 1 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, 1 LEAST
FLYCATCHER, 11 Eastern Phoebes, 1 YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, 6 BLUE-HEADED
