This is the Voice of Audubon for Monday, September 25.
The AMERICAN AVOCET in Newburyport Harbor was joined by a second
individual this morning, and other birds reported from the Newburyport/Plum
Island area included 1 CLAPPER RAIL, 60 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 5
HUDSONIAN GODWITS, 4 WHIMBREL, 1 BLACK-HEADED GULL, 1
LITTLE GULL, roughly 600 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 1 COMMON TERN,
6 BROWN THRASHERS, 1 CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, and 1
LARK SPARROW.
Seen at the Great Meadows Refuge in Concord were 10 WOOD DUCKS,
2 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 HOODED MERGANSER, 3 PIED-BILLED
GREBES, 2 AMERICAN BITTERNS, 4 GREAT EGRETS, 1 GREEN
HERON, 2 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 3 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 24
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 2 WILSON'S SNIPE, and 1 COMMON
NIGHTHAWK, and a report from Westboro included 1 RING-NECKED
DUCK, 5 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 2 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 4 EASTERN
SCREECH-OWLS, 14 EASTERN PHOEBES, roughly100 GRAY
CATBIRDS, 17 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS, 1 CONNECTICUT WARBLER,
3 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, 43 SWAMP SPARROWS, 37 WHITE-
THROATED SPARROWS, 2 INDIGO BUNTINGS, and 59 BOBOLINKS.
In Winthrop there were roughly 100 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 1
MARBLED GODWIT, 1 WESTERN SANDPIPER, 1 BAIRD'S SAND-
PIPER, 42 LAUGHING GULLS, and 2 CASPIAN TERNS, and a report
from Nahant included 1 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, 1 CONNECTICUT
WARBLER, 1 CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, 1 LINCOLN'S SPARROW,
2 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, 5 ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS,
5 INDIGO BUNTINGS, 1 LARK SPARROW, and 1 DICKCISSEL.
Weekend reports from Nantucket included 1 RED-BREASTED
MERGANSER, 1 LITTLE BLUE HERON, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON,
5 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS, 25 LAUGHING GULLS, roughly
17,000 TREE SWALLOWS, and 1 LARK SPARROW, at the Cumberland
Farm fields in Middleboro there was a CLIFF SWALLOW, 4 NASHVILLE
WARBLERS, 3 CONNECTICUT WARBLERS, 3 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS,
and 4 INDIGO BUNTINGS, and miscellaneous report from the weekend
included the EARED GREBE back for the twelfth consecutive year at Niles
Beach in East Gloucester, a REDHEAD at the Cherry Hill Reservoir in
West Newbury, 2 AMERICAN PIPITS and a DICKCISSEL in Newbury, 2
STILT SANDPIPERS and a RUSTY BLACKBIRD at Belle Isle Marsh in
East Boston, a CONNECTICUT WARBLER in Waltham, 2 LINCOLN'S
SPARROWS and 1 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW in Wayland, and 26
AMERICAN WIGEON and 16 BLUE-WINGED TEAL in Barnstable.
