This update of Tucson Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert for southeast

I-19-PATAGONIA AREA
An *AZTEC THRUSH was reported in Madera Canyon on the 22nd (Wilson Cady fide
Rick Wright). The bird was observed along the Carrie Nation Mine/Vault Mine
Trail, which is accessed from the uppermost parking lot. The bird was
observed in a choke cherry tree just before the first dry stream crossing.
A #WHITE-EARED HUMMINGBIRD has been visiting at Paul Neff's feeders in
Madera Canyon across the street and uphill from the Chuparosa Inn. It was
reported on the 25th from the Chuparosa Inn (fide George West). Luis Calvo,
the Inn's proprietor, is glad to have birders stop by to see if they can
locate this bird again.
A SANDERLING was present at the Green Valley Wastewater Treatment Plant on
the 24th (Bev Postmus). A DUNLIN was present here on the 25th (Bill Massey).

KITT PEAK
A *TENNESSEE WARBLER was a good find at the picnic area at Kitt Peak on the
26th (Philip Kline).
SULPHER SPRINGS VALLEY
A *COMMON TERN was observed at Whitewater Draw on the 23rd (Rick Wright). A
#SABINE'S GULL was present here on the 26th (Stuart Healy).
A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was at Lake Cochise in Willcox on the 26th (Keith
Kamper).
SIERRA VISTA AREA
#LUCIFER HUMMINGBIRDS continue at the Ash Canyon B&B with the most recent
report occurring on the 26th (Mary Jo Ballator).
ANNOUNCEMENTS
CORONADO NATIONAL MEMORIAL: The memorial and its roads, at the south end of
the Huachuca Mts, are closed until further notice due to severe flood damage
in July 2006.
FORT HUACHUCA ACCESS: A photo ID, vehicle registration and proof of
insurance is again required for entry to the Army base. Foreign Nationals
must now be sponsored by someone with a valid military ID card. Direct

Visitors are reminded not to stop in the middle of roads or to park on
grassy shoulders where fires may be started.
BAIRD'S SPARROW HILL AND THE VACA RANCH CORRAL in the San Rafael Valley
continue to be off limits to birders due to the thoughtless actions of a few
birders. Do not bird within .25 mile of the corrals or enter the property.
NOGALES SEWAGE PONDS: Remain closed to birders due to security concerns.
CASA GRANDE SEWAGE PONDS: Due to a construction project, birders will be
able to view the ponds only from outside of the chain link fence.
CORONA DE TUCSON SEWAGE PONDS: Closed due to ongoing construction, perhaps
until spring 2007.
