This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Friday, September 29th,
2006.

A winter-plumaged adult BLACK-HEADED GULL was seen with a large flock of 230
BONAPARTE'S GULLS near the mouth of the Piscataqua River from New Castle on
September 22nd. A FORSTER'S TERN and 27 LAUGHING GULLS were also seen on the
river earlier on the same day.

An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at Jackson Landing off of Durham
Point Road in Durham on September 22nd.

A CONNECTICUT WARBLER was reported from the Brentwood Mitigation Area in
Brentwood on September 27th.

A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was seen at the Exeter Waste Water Treatment Plant on
September 25th, 8 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen there on September 24th, and 10
BLACKPOLL WARBLERS were seen there on September 23rd.

120 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were seen in Meadow Pond in Hampton on September
23rd. 225 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 210 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 25 SANDERLINGS,
5 DUNLINS, and a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER were seen on the beach in Seabrook on
September 22nd.

3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were reported from a swamp on Shirkin Road in Fremont on
September 26th.

80 KINGLETS, mainly RUBY-CROWNED, and a few GOLDEN-CROWNED, were reported
from Snow Pond in Concord on September 27th. Also reported was a TENNESSEE
WARBLER.

30 INDIGO BUNTINGS were seen on Krif Road in Keene on September 23rd.

A kettle of about 100 TURKEY VULTURES was seen in Keene on September 28th.

There was a good flight of raptors reported from Pack Monadnock in
Peterborough on September 27th. Highlights included 981 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS,
50 SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 9 COOPER'S HAWKS, 24 OSPREYS, 19 AMERICAN KESTRELS,
5 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 2 MERLINS, and 6 BALD EAGLES.

Over 20 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were reported from the Pittsburg area, as
well as 3 SPRUCE GROUSE and numerous BOREAL CHICKADEES on September 24th.

2 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS, 2 GRAY JAYS, and 3 BOREAL CHICKADEES were seen
on the trail up Mount Starr King and Mount Waumbek on September 27th.

Migrating land bird sightings continued during the past week, including a
variety of THRUSHES, WARBLERS, and VIREOS. SPARROWS are starting to be
reported in good numbers, including WHITE-THROATED, WHITE-CROWNED, LINCOLN'S,
SWAMP, SAVANNAH, CHIPPING, and SONG

The WESTERN REEF HERON and NORTHERN WHEATEAR were not reported at all during
the past week.

There will not be another Rare Bird Alert until October 13th.
