Reports this week from the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and elsewhere
on Plum Island included 2 AMERICAN AVOCETS (seen today; presumably
these are birds that have been present in the Newburyport Harbor area
all week),
3 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, 6 WHIMBRELS, 22 DUNLIN, 4 SHORT-
BILLED and 21 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 2 PIED-BILLED GREBES,
100 AMERICAN WIGEONS, 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 63 NORTHERN
PINTAILS, 151 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 23 SURF
SCOTERS, 12 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 14 COMMON LOONS, 86 GREAT
BLUE HERONS, 50 GREAT EGRETS, 85 SNOWY EGRETS, 80
LAUGHING GULLS, 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, 6 CASPIAN TERNS, 6
FORSTER'S TERNS, 21 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 3 PEREGRINE FALCONS,
2 RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS, 4 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS,
4 AMERICAN PIPITS, 7 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS, 2 CAPE MAY
WARBLERS, and a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW.

With favorable winds this week, hawkwatchers at Mount Wachusett in
Princeton on Wednesday tallied 14 OSPREY, 2 BALD EAGLES, 4
NORTHERN HARRIERS, 3 SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 670 BROAD-
WINGED HAWKS, 1 AMERICAN KESTREL, and 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS.
A lunch-time hawkwatch in Groton on that day counted 2 OSPREY, 2 SHARP-
SHINNED HAWKS, 1 COOPER'S HAWK, 81 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS,
2 AMERICAN KESTRELS, and a PEREGRINE FALCON. Birds reported
from Nantucket this week included a PIED-BILLED GREBE, 15 PALM
WARBLERS, a WHIMBREL, a YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, and a
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER.

A survey at Mt Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge and Watertown came
up with 2 SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 1 RED-TAILED HAWK, 1
RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER, 2 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS,
10 EASTERN PHOEBES, 3 HOUSE WRENS, 4 BLACKPOLL
WARBLERS, 7 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, and 1 WHITE-
CROWNED SPARROW. Interesting sightings in the Marstons Mills
area of Barnstable included a BLUE GROSBEAK, 3 western PALM
WARBLERS, 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, a GADWALL, 7 WOOD
DUCKS, 31 AMERICAN WIGEON, and a EURASIAN WIGEON.

Miscellaneous reports included the EARED GREBE at Niles Beach in
Gloucester, a MARBLED GODWIT at Winthrop Beach, a BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER and a LARK SPARROW in Nahant, a HOODED WARBLER
in the Nahanton Park area of Newton, 6 CASPIAN TERNS and 3 BLACK
SKIMMERS at Castle Island in Boston, three GREAT HORNED OWLS
vocalizing in Newbury, 2 lingering RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS
in Newbury, a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT in Bradford, 2 BARRED
OWLS and a BALD EAGLE in Acushnet, a WESTERN TANAGER
in Dartmouth, a TRICOLORED HERON in Essex, and a GOLDEN-
WINGED WARBLER in Wareham.
