Sightings for September 30
An adult ICELAND GULL was found on the sandbar at the mouth of Mission Creek
accessed from the end of Truswell Ave in the Kelowna Mission area on
September 29 (RT). It was seen again on September 30, along with an adult
THAYER'S GULL (CC). The BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER continous at the same location
as of Sept 30 (CC).
A flock of 200 SANDHILL CRANES was seen circling and calling high over
downtown Kelowna in the late afternoon on September 30 (SC).
Two female BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS were seen along the Kettle Valley
Railway at Myra Canyon on September 29 (GW).
A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen interacting with at two GOLDEN EAGLES the N. end
of Kalamalka Lake in Vernon on September 24 (TF).
Sightings for September 23
At the mouth of Mission Ck in Kelowna a first winter FRANKLIN'S GULL and a
juv. BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER were seen (RT).
At Michaelbrook Marsh at Gordon Rd and Mission Ck in Kelowna, a
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was reported (RT).
On September 19, a SABINE'S GULL was patrolling the area between the
Lakeside Resort and the marina on Okanagan Lake in Penticton (LN).
Sightings for September 1
An adult FERRUGINOUS HAWK was found in the late afternoon at Seperation
Lake, which is found along Hwy 5a, S. of Kamloops (CC). Take Beresford Road
off the hwy to get to the lake. The hawk was seen and photographed in the
large cottonwood snag beside the lake.
On August 31, a first fall MAGNOLIA WARBLER was in Sutherland Hills Park in
Kelowna. Also here was an AMERICAN REDSTART, a PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER and
a BLACK SWIFT (RT).
On August 31, two adult and one juvenile RUSTY BLACKBIRD were at the Ellis
Reservoir which is located 12.5 kilometers up the Beaverdell Road, E. of
Penticton (LN).
