Please excuse the lack of hotline coverage in the last weeks. We
apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. This
weeks’ hotline will cover mostly the week of 9/23-9/30.

There have been a few good flights of both songbirds and hawks in the
last week. At least 23 species of warbler have been reported in the
Cape May area and hawks flights totaling over 8,000 birds for the week.

As a side note, the weather forecast looks very promising for the
latter half of the week to bring yet a few more stellar days of
birding to the Cape May area.

On 9/26 both the daily BALD EAGLE and COOPERS HAWK count records were
broken with 39 and 1231 birds being counted respectively.

A MISSISSIPPI KITE was spotted from the hawkwatch yesterday 9/30.

The songbird flights have produced a number of birds with at least
two CONNECTICUT WARBLERS being seen yesterday 9/30 at Higbee’s Beach
WMA. Also the species was seen on 9/27, at Higbee’s.

The cedars at the picnic shelter next to the hawkwatch platform have
been a bevy of activity in terms of warblers. CAPE MAY WARBLERS have
been seen that last few days in this location as well as at Higbee’s
yesterday 9/30.

SUMMER TANAGERS have made a few appearances in the last week. One
was reported from the Villas WMA (Ponderlodge) yesterday 9/30 as well
at Higbee’s, also one bird seen on 9/26.

Also at the Villas WMA on 9/26 was one GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER

There were a number of RED-EYED VIREOS in the woods yesterday as
well, a number of reports of PHILADELPHIA VIREOS from Higbee’s.

Lastly, there have been no further reports of the WHITE-WINGED DOVE
that was seen on 9/25 and 9/26 from North Wildwood.
